Charging an EV may be more expensive than you think but buying a used EV is getting cheaper. According to data from Auto Trader, new electric cars bought in 2022 have lost 21% of their value already, a dramatic drop for one year of depreciation, especially at a time when the values of petrol and diesel models have remained solid - link Motoring journalist Quentin Wilson who is a fan of EV's, has just been interviewed on GB News. He said a two year old Tesla (apologies cant remember the model) can be picked up for as little as £15k. The presenter asked him how much it was new, Wilson almost sheepishly said, £45k. Which is incredible depreciation. As I said Quentin Wilson is a fan of EV's and in an attempt to promote them he said he's had one for years and has put 40,000 miles on it. He seemed to think this was particularly good. I suppose for an EV, it may be. Dealers are currently knocking 25% off the list price for EV's to get them out the door - consumer demand is waning but the ZEV Mandate means that they have to sell 22% of total sales as EV's (which they are never going to hit). Wait until panic hits at the end of the year and you will see thousands of dealers pre-registering vehicles and then dumping them on the used markets. If you want an EV then this year is going to be a good time to buy as I can see the ZEV mandate being scrapped due to manufacturer pressure from 2024.

"Dealers are currently knocking 25% off the list price for EV's to get them out the door"
Another fairy-tale which Jonksy has already aired (see earlier posts here).

I thought that sounded a little too good to be true so I took a look on Auto Trader to see what 2021 Model 3s are going for, The lowest price asked was £19K for a high-mileage base spec car while the highest was £59K for fully-specced two motor model with low-mileage.
I'd say the average asking price was somewhere in the high 20s/low 30s.
Sometimes you EV-phobes let the side down by recounting these sorts of fairy-tales.
I suggest you forward your concerns to Quentin Wilson.

I was watching a conversation on another forum in which 'Leicesterdave' said... ... If you're thinking of trading in your EV anytime soon don't bother! 2 VW dealers this am wouldn't touch my Cupra Born. I have never in 23 years had a dealer refuse to take my car in part exchange, never! Dealers simply don't want EVs and I have to admit that of course it's scaring me as I need to sell but the loss is far too great to bear.Of course, it could be just another fairy tale.

Not really, the article in the Mail that Jonksy was flourishing earlier and which you now appear to be parroting listed ten BEVs which which being 'drastically' discounted, one or two them up to 25% (including as I recall the Vauxhall Mokka). Four of them were in the 7-9% range which is not out of the ordinary for a new car purchase.
However they were all from what we might consider marginal players in the BEV business, 'me too' companies like Vauxhall that came late to the game. They're likely to be among those who won't be to sell enough ZEVs (which include PHEVs btw) to make up the quota for 2024, so we can probably look forward to further heavy discounting in late 2024.
Long-term serious players like Tesla, VAG, Volvo, BMW, MB and the Koreans (and the Chinese) who have made a strong commitment to the technology and designed their sales strategy accordingly will have no worries which unfortunately for prospective ZEV buyers will mean little on no discounts on offer.
PS Tesla Model Ys are getting discounted at the moment because a facelift along the lines of the one the Model 3 has already had is strongly rumoured to be in the works.

And don't you miss the NHS of those days. Where life expectancy was 64 years. How long would you be dead by now? Just think what that would save. As ever you want more more more for less less less. The NHS is a cost - it does not lead to growth in the economy. I never mentioned growing the economy, that was you. I say the rich can afford more tax without growing the economy. I say the poor would not be so poor if we were more equitable.

Do tell, how is part of the plan for clean energy to flood the country with unlimited numbers of homeless people from around the world. I'm pointing out an inconsistency between your positions. You want your cake and eat it too. A big reason for that inconsistency is your motives Which inconsistence is this? I have told you about a thousand times that i am against further immigration because the UK is full. We had a big row about it only a short while ago and I vowed to ignore you unyil you repented. Bye.

You are notionally against 'immigration' but you insist on holding a position that allows unlimited numbers into the UK on the pretext of 'seeking asylum' ie 'more than one way to skin a cat' as this amounts to the same position with a different name.

That said some older EV's with short ranges have lost quite a lot of value as range has increased quite dramatically on newer ones.
