The total incompetence of the police, the fire brigade and the ambulance service were covered in great detail and come as no real surprise anymore. As they say there are a lot of lessons for them to learn. But there's one area that seems to me to be even more important - and that's the incompetence of the police and the Manchester Arena security personnel.
The basic fact is that a bearded Asian (muslim) carrying a heavy rucksack was allowed to calmly walk into the venue and hang around the foyer area without a SINGLE challenge. The artist performing was Ariana Grande - someone who would appeal to teeny-bopper young girls mainly. Surely that should have been an extreme red flag for security, given that these type of events are known target for muslim terrorists (e.g. the Bataclan) Yet security and the police took no action. Some "members of the public" even approached security and pointed out that this was highly suspicious but they were ignored.
In a previous enquiry enquiry one of the security guys said that he didn't approach Abedi because he was "afraid of being accused of racism". And there you have it. The culture of political correctness means that "profiling" has a bad name. If the police stop and search Blacks they get accused of racism because they're 8 times more likely to stop Blacks. But the fact is that Blacks are stopped because they commit far more crime (especially street crime) so surely that's a valid reason? The police are using their knowledge to try to only select people for stop and search who are likely to be breaking the law - that's why they don't stop old ladies. It's called "profiling"
In the case of Abedi any basic profiling would have identified him as serious threat - it was blindingly obvious. But if the police or security start stopping suspicious looking Asians there will be more complaints. But my point is that I don't give a fuck how many people are inconvenienced by being searched if it means atrocities like the Manchester Arena attack are STOPPED.
That's the lesson that needs to be taken. But nobody can even talk about it. The BBC daren't utter a word about it.
