Brexit bashing woke BBC liberal luvvies, look away now. Former Home Secretary Priti Patel let rip at the "Tory hating Brexit-bashers, free speech deniers at the BBC and the so-called mainstream media" as she launched a passionate defence of GB News. Speaking at the Conservative Democratic Organisation's gala dinner, Patel praised The People's Channel as "the newest, most successful, dynamic, no nonsense news station, and the defenders of free speech" In an address to Conservative Party members that pulled no punches, she added: "This isn’t breaking news but I think it’s safe to say our country needed a new disruptor when it came to news media." She continued: "You have represented people outside of Westminster and the metropolitan elite, providing competition and a real alternative to mainstream news, ultimately, is what the people want." www.gbnews.com/politics/priti-patel-brexit-bbc-free-speech-gb-newsWell said Priti Patel.

Its almost like there was an election due imminently and very likely then a battle for the soul of the Tory party.
All politicians are playing games at the moment. Take all they say with a large spoon of salt.

The Tories are moving to the centre right because they have at long last realised such a move is a vote winner.

The Tories are moving to the centre right because they have at long last realised such a move is a vote winner. Terminology between exactly where the centre is and therefore what is centre right and what is right must be just about the most tedious argument . Can we just call the two win gs of the Tory party "one nation" and "populist" On that basis what evidence do you have that moving towards the populists is likely to be electorally popular. Why do you think suddenly doing so just before an election will feel credible to the electorate even if that was electorally popular?

I'm not nearly as right wing as you seem to think, the problem is vociferous lefties insist anyone who disagree with them are far right extremists who should be shouted down and cancelled. Todays vociferous woke loving lefties have a lot in common with Nazis. If only they could see it.

Oh I agree people will say that Sunak suddenly becoming a Conservative is nothing more than election opportunism, and I suspect they are right. But it's working, the polls are closing and people are no longer talking about a Labour landslide. I listened to a discussion this morning in which a Labour commentator suggested a hung parliament is probably more realistic than a Labour landslide. Sunak has at long last become a centre right Conservative, as a result and for the first time in years clear water has appeared between Tory and Labour policy. This is bad news for EU loving, immigrant loving, net zero loving left wing Starmer, and he knows it.

Just for interest, last night I was listening to ex Labour MP Stephen Pound who is a regular on GB News. I'm currently listening to ex Labour MP Gloria De Piero who is interviewing people for GB News at the Tory conference. If GB News hating lefties actually watched GB News rather than shouting it down because it has GB in the title, they would see that it's far less biased than the BBC.

Red be careful you dont get in by tabloid propaganda.
There was one poll from Opinium which had Lab at 39% and Con at 29%. Other polls done the same day or a day or two from Wethink had Lab at 47% and Con at 27% and Techne had Lab at 45% and Con at 27%. The Tory press highlights every poll that moves in Con direction and ignores another poll from the same organisation which moves the other way. Time will tell whether the (I agree unconvincing) move towards the populist wing is beneficial or negative to Sunaks tories. I can see why they have rolled the dice but personally I think it will bit him on the backside.
Realistically the only way the tories can stay in power is if they plus the DUP have a majority between them. That feels unlikely. Personally I would prefer a Lab minority government to a majority but betting market does still seem to be heavily in majority direction. May be a year to go yet, we'll see what happens.

Should have said, but if you want the truth of what the latest polls are saying, go to Britain Elects on twitter which will give you all the polls from reputable companies not just the ones that tell the story that the relevant publisher/party wants.
