This is not just racist, it's the worst kind of bullying and for the life of me I cant imagine why adults thought this was acceptable. Just look at the little black girl, she looks confused and no doubt humiliated. Watch the clip... All parents at the event should have complained about it at the time, they should have encouraged their own kids to hand their medals back in support of that little black girl. More here - link

Yes it's appalling and sad. I just wonder what's behind this. Was it just a genuine mistake which took too long to correct? I find it hard to believe that it was a deliberate act of racism.

Oh God. More victimhood . Don't be so epically bloody stupid man. The only little black girl in a line up of white girls, why do you think she was ignored? You know perfectly well I'm no lefty snowflake but there is no other way of describing this, it is appalling behaviour.

It seems that it was an honest mistake on the part of the official involved, rather than a 'blatant case of racism' In an earlier statement, Gymnastics Ireland said the official in question “accepted fully that what had happened had not been acceptable but stressed that it had not been intentional”. “The official concerned said that upon realising the mistake they immediately rectified it and ensured that the competitor concerned was presented with her medal before she left the field of play. “The official also expressed deep regret for what they described as an honest error and requested the opportunity to apologise in person to the competitor and her family. This request was initially declined. “A written apology provided by the identified individual has since been issued to the competitor and her family.” Evidently the girl's parents declined to 'engage' in the process at first and there seemed to be a whiff of compo in the air ('seeking legal advice'). www.irishtimes.com/ireland/social-affairs/2023/09/23/gymnastics-ireland-apologises-to-girl-over-medal-ceremony-at-centre-of-racism-claim/This event transpired over 18 months ago, unclear why it's suddenly bubbled up now.

Yes I've seen that Dan, and I listened to similar from a Gymnastics Ireland spokesman yesterday. Still doesn't explain why the woman handing out the medals didn't see that little black girl, who was standing in front of her. I've no idea why it's blown up now, there was an item about this on GB News yesterday but they were responding to a report/s in the media.

“Evidently the girl's parents declined to 'engage' in the process at first and there seemed to be a whiff of compo in the air ('seeking legal advice').”

So basically, the story has been resurfaced out of context to stir up racial controversy. It must have been a slow news day.
