It's not financially viable. You would either have to re-engineer thousands of bridges and tunnels to make them big enough to accept these trains or lay new rail routes. Simply not worth the money. Good point, Victorian engineering. Wonder why we still have Victorian engineering and the rest of the EU doesn't. And surely the longer we leave it to update the harder it becomes. Britain paired with Bolivia.

Have you tried them? They're lovely but you wouldn't want to use them for your daily commute.

Wonder why we still have Victorian engineering and the rest of the EU doesn't. Probably because it was made to last; Isambard Kingdom Brunel was no slouch.

Or because we keep kicking infrastructure projects down the generations. Then we moan how crap they are. Probably why our productivity is so poor

Do you drive a steam car or are you still on your horse? Fool, the most expensive cars on/off the road today are vintage, and if you are on about horse drawn carriages, the Royals have priceless carriages worth more than any vehicles on the road today 'put together', new isn't always best, and most of the time is never fit for purpose, the good old Royal carriages dating back to Queen Victoria still look as good today as they did back then.

Gosh when did we flatten Belgium? 1944. Germany had a good go too. More V2s fell on Antwerp than London. We were talking about infrastructure They made holes in the railways and roads, they didn't destroy full lengths of track.

Nowhere has that been more evident than Euston station itself, where the estimated HS2 bill has ballooned to nearly £5bn, mired in indecision and uncertainty, according to the National Audit Office
