So can I mate. Hybrid And I can tow 1.4 tons in a 7 seven seater. I guess you could get 7 in the back 🤣So in otherword you have spent a small fortune on something that runs on fossil fuel. So how does that make you any greener than the rest of us who stick to our ICE powered vehicles? 162mpg.

Well done, but how long before you recoup the difference in cost between a high cost electric Sorento and a much lower cost of a normal fuel derived car? or will it be by then defunct? Depends how many miles I drive. Equivalent spec petrol car is about 12k cheaper, so about 4-5 years. How about depreciation, as you probably write yours off as a tax loss, but most people can't, how much does a replacement hybrid battery cost and is that also accounting for general servicing and repairs? Asking for a friend who is interested in what people think.

But that is not the true figure is it? I know I can get my fuel anyware. To get a working EV charging station down here it would take 162 miles or more to find one and then if it works you will have to join a line of EV's waiting ti recharge. Fuck that for a game of soldiers.

Depreciation is a big issue for the early all electric cars where range was a real issue. Hybrids and modern electrics with 250-300mile ranges don't seem to suffer from range anxiety when I talk to other owners. I am not expecting to have to replace the battery as it comes with a 10 year guarantee. But mostly because Kia can replace individual cells in all their range. In Tesla you can't. Had one service so far £220.00, so cheaper than my previous Merc diesel.

I cant ever see EV's or Hybrids reaching that lofty height. Most of them will have gone back to nature long before they are considered as a classic.

I think the days of the classic car left with our young days. My best car was a Ford Sierra IR4i with a turbo fitted. 0-60 in 3.7 seconds (but if you did that to often then 13mpg. ) I was tempted to buy one a few years back as I had fond memories of it, but when I looked it was so dated and not as good as the dream I remembered it being. So I decided to keep the dream instead.

Scratching my head a little at Zany's sums here. Evidently his kimchi-powered rice burner does 162 mpg and yet a 400 mile journey sets him back £60.
As they say down in Alabammy, this dog don't hunt.

Plus, he uses free energy, the man is a genius, I am very impressed. That's not sarcasm by the way I really am, only Orac can be accused of such things. Innocent until proven guilty your honour.

Simple. Most of my journeys are not 400 miles, they are less than 35 miles and this is done on pure battery. The overall mix between the two so far has given me 162mpg.

At the moment mine is not free, hasn't got here yet, but it is only 7.5p per kWh. Which equates to about £1 a gallon of petrol.

Whether the general population of the UK are opposed or in favour of HS2, I really dont know, but what I do know is that whatever Mr U Turn decides, it wont have any bearing on voters in Kent, Wales, Scotland or Teesside.
However, it will have an effect on voters in Greater Manchester, where out of 27 Parliamentary constituencies, 9 are held by the Conservatives.
It will also further exacerbate the arguments and tensions within the Conservative Party, and cause constenation amongst most of the business community in and around Manchester.

I've never been the biggest fan of HS2, it's devastated parts of Warwickshire, which will not benefit them, or here in Coventry as it skirts the edge of the city. But if they just stop at Birmingham, so that the net result is people get to London 10 minutes quicker, for all that money and devastation of the countryside, that makes me angry. The entire project was an EU inspired waste of money. The moment we voted to leave the EU in 2016 HS2 should have been scrapped. It was a vanity project designed to benefit the EU not the UK.
