The Tories tried to get a better deal and failed . What will Starmer do that the Tories would not? Get a better deal. Translation….. you have no idea . Why am I not surprised?

The Triple Lock rule on pensions, a guarantee introduced by the Tories has not been guaranteed by government ministers.
If applied over this financial year, it would mean an 8.5% rise in pensions
The pensions Minister Laura Trott failed to committ to it going into next years general election when pushed on the matter in an interview on BBC Breakfast this morning.
Never mind about Labours view on this, its the Tories who are hesitating, and for very good reason, the costs of sticking to this rule are staggering, and would cost the taxpayer an extra £45 Billion by 2050.
Pensioners got over 10% in the last rise - how many public sector workers got anything like a 10% wage rise ?
Why are pensioners such a special case ?

Why are pensioners such a special case ? So Labour will support the scrapping of the triple lock?

Why are pensioners such a special case ? So Labour will support the scrapping of the triple lock? I have no idea - but personally I believe it should be abandoned Problem for the Tories is that it was they who introduced it after promising to do so, and so it would clearly be a Broken Promise if they now decided to abandon it. I fail to understand why annual rises should be above the inflation rate - I also fail to understand why public sector workers should be offered pay increase BELOW the inflation rate when pensions are given rises ABOVE the inflation rate.

Civil servants did not get a 10% rise, so they had a ~£5k bonuses instead. Then they said "We can't include bonuses in the triple lock calculations, we don't want pensioners getting what we got".

They tend to be more conservative and voted to leave the EU. That’s unforgivable.

I have no idea - but personally I believe it should be abandoned Well thats fine but Labour have so far supported the Triple Lock from it's inception - in fact Labours last Shadow Chancellor pledged to keep the Triple Lock. ..but now who knows what Labour will do.. after all, we all know what Keir Starmers record on pledges is..
