China’s Coal Power Binge Escalates: Over 300 More Plants On The Way
China’s mad dash for coal power continues, even as Western governments tell their citizens to make more sacrifices for “climate change.”
A report from two energy research groups on Tuesday found China has over 300 more coal power plants in the works, issuing permits for another 52 gigawatts of coal power in just the first half of 2023 alone. [emphasis, links added]
The report from Global Energy Monitor (GEM) and the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) said China doubled its commissions of coal plants in 2023, so if anything, China’s coal spree is accelerating
The report noted that China takes a while to follow up on permits, with only about half of the plants that were permitted in 2022 under construction as of summer 2033.
The report said:
After the permitting spree of the past year, China now has 243 GW of coal-fired capacity currently permitted and under construction.
If the permitting rush is not stopped until projects that are currently announced or in pre-permit stages have gained permits as well, there will be a total of 392 GW of new coal-fired power capacity in the pipeline.
The climate change movement is usually very muted in its criticism of China, but over the past year, a few environmental organizations have begun noticing that Beijing’s coal rush is a sharp contrast to the rhetoric deployed at climate conferences.
The GEM/CREA report said it has now become effectively impossible for China to come close to its promises of peak carbon emissions in 2030 without wasting titanic sums of money by canceling many of the projects under construction.
China does not seem inclined to make any such sacrifices. In fact, the report found that China is now using coal for more than half of its electric power generation, and it is even building coal power plants in areas that do not appear to need more generator capacity:
Al Jazeera News noted that China, the world’s worst polluter by a wide margin, produces more emissions than the U.S., the European Union, and India combined, even as it builds “more solar power capacity than the entire rest of the world.”
China’s emissions increased by another ten percent last year

Most things I buy seem to have been made in China . I suppose that we in the West who purchase goods from China are as much to blame for emissions as they are .

Most things I buy seem to have been made in China . I suppose that we in the West who purchase goods from China are as much to blame for emissions as they are . exactly bentley. I read somewhere that 25 % of the goods circulating in the EU itself are chinese .Both the european governments and the yanks have helped destroy western manufacturing in the name of greed and profit by sending it to the slave labour in china , now they have turned china into an economic powerhouse with their short sighted policies , they are now sitting whinging about chinas rise to prominence?
When you read these stories about chinas emissions , it really does put the uk "fight " against climate change in to perspective. Its fucking laughable.
Just as the west under our short sighted leaders killed manufacturing , we are now in the process of killing our economies over the climate as china and the rest of the global south and east laugh at us.
I was reading the other day a study done in France where half the motorists who have changed to EV`s are unhappy with their purchases. Anecdotally im hearing the same over here.
We really are in for a rough ride over the coming years with all this fearmongering pish and flawed green policy. I think the protests and anger at glasgows and londons ULEZschemes , coupled with unhappiness at being sold a pig in a poke regarding EV`s and much else are just the start of things to come.

Noam Chomsky has written and spoken many times about how the US and the West exported its manufacturing industry to Asia to rely on paper shuffling financial institutions and ‘ tech’. It’s about making very rich people even richer . We get cheap shirts and toys , they get the world . Power and wealth is moving from West to East and we in the West are moving into a slow decline to stagnation and then poverty.

another article highlighting the fantasy propaganda behind the climate change fight.......this time about the irretrievably damaged great barrier reef..
The Australian Academy of Science (AAS) recently released a report Reef Futures Roundtable, which is ostensibly about the doomed Great Barrier Reef. However, the report only demonstrates that the AAS, Australia’s peak science body, has become not just unscientific, but anti-scientific. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it has also become astonishingly Woke. The AAS report predictably concluded that the Great Barrier Reef could already be ‘irreversibly’ damaged. The fact that UNESCO has just declared it not endangered did not rate a mention, and neither did the latest two years of statistics showing the reef is at record high coral levels. Remarkably, the report does not contain a single fact or figure to support any of its claims about the reef – except the area of the reef is 340,000 square kilometres. There are no figures, no percentages. Nowhere does it mention that coral grows 30 per cent faster for every degree increase in water temperatures. Or that there is 100 per cent more coral on the reef today than in 2012

The backlash against net zero seems to be well underway in oz....
Opinion: Interest rates have soared under net zero push, not stayed low
We fell for a lie and signed up to the crazy and unattainable net zero target in the hope of lower interest rates, writes Matt Canavan.
Do you remember when we were told that if we signed up to net zero emissions by 2050 that our interest rates would be lower?
Well, we fell for that lie and signed the nation up to this crazy and unattainable net zero idea in late 2021.
Since then the RBA has raised interest rates 12 times, and the average Australian homeowner is paying $1200 more per month on their mortgage.
Thanks net zero
On the other side of the world, another meeting took place between the BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). At this meeting they agreed to expand their group to include 6 more nations. The new group would represent almost half of the world’s population and a third of the global economy.
Among other things this group is developing plans to move away from the use of the US dollar in global trade. If they succeed that will push interest rates in western countries higher as demand for US dollar-denominated assets falls.
Some view this risk as only small but we would be crazy to ignore it as the current global financial framework is only 60 years old, when Richard Nixon took the US off the gold standard. Hardly anyone predicted the massive financial changes that occurred in the 1970s. Like the 1970s we live at a time of high energy prices so another financial revolution may be on the cards.
It is no coincidence that these BRICS+ countries are also those that are not taking their net zero commitments seriously. China and India are building more than two coal fired power stations a week.

Yup. The eco worriers , even though they do have evidence to support much of what they claim have reverted to a cult like narrative and strategy.

Yup. The eco worriers , even though they do have evidence to support much of what they claim have reverted to a cult like narrative and strategy. the evidence is skewed though in many cases. For example , hasnt the head of greenpeace went against the cult recently when claiming the world is naturally in a 300 year old slight warming phase that started before industrialisation ? They appear to have taken a natural event and twisted things to suit their narrative and push their agenda.
As the cost of net zero become ever more apparent , i believe it is going to fall apart pretty quickly.
