Nadine Dorries has accused Rishi Sunak of endangering her safety by “whipping up a public frenzy” after announcing she has finally quit as an MP. The former culture secretary revealed that police officers had visited her home last week to warn her of a threat to her personal security. In an extraordinary resignation statement she also lashed out at the Prime Minister, saying: “You have abandoned the fundamental principles of Conservatism. History will not judge you kindly.” “What exactly has been done or have you achieved? You hold the office of Prime Minister unelected, without a single vote, not even from your own MPs,” she asked him. “You have no mandate from the people, and the Government is adrift. You have squandered the goodwill of the nation, for what?” Ms Dorries, a close ally of Boris Johnson announced in June that she would leave her Mid-Bedfordshire seat with “immediate effect” but then failed to do so. She had faced growing criticism from within the Tory party over her decision not to stand down amid accusations her constituents were not being properly represented. Her resignation means that Mr Sunak will face another difficult by-election this Autumn, with the Liberal Democrats already heavily targeting her constituency - link
I have mixed feelings about Nadine, I think she was a straight talker which I like, but she was too aligned with Boris and that was never going to ingratiate her with Sunak. Hey ho, another by-election.

A stupid, vain self serving piece of human junk that probably single handed cost the Tories at least 5 points in the polls. Good riddance to one of the biggest disgraces to contaminate British politics in my lifetime.

Good riddance to one of the biggest disgraces to contaminate British politics in my lifetime. A scathing, if brief summary. She certainly didn't cost the Tories 5 points, that's nonsense. I may have been kinder to her if she had not so desperately tried to get into the Lords, I'm reminded of that shabby little remainer, Bercow.

Not keen on her at all, the best you can say was she was loyal to Bojo.

I wouldn't say she was such a big disgrace as Sir Antony Blair (Lab), John Bercow (Lab), Keith Vaz (Lab), she had her point of view and was keen to express it, but she didn't start any illegal wars, try to subvert democracy or bugger washing machine salesmen.
It all depends on how you prioritise these things I suppose.

She claims to be writing a book will be interesting to see how this gets received.
