Army chiefs have been accused of “a failure of leadership” after 22,500 soldiers flunked fitness tests in a three-year period. That's massive, it's nearly a third of the army (Yes the army is that small) it's disgraceful, it's embarrassing, or it 'should' be embarrassing. Figures from the Ministry of Defence show 13,527 were found lacking between 2019 and 2022 in the annual Soldier Condition Review. A further 8,988 failed to complete two other annual tests. www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/british-army-chiefs-under-fire-30688633Perhaps the defence secretary should, and none too gently, remind VSO's that preparing soldiers for war is far more important than chasing diversity quotas and instilling woke values. Wankers.

Does not make good reading at all, I also read the other day that quite a lot of members of the armed forces have been thrown out for drug taking

Ben Wallace is driving all that nonsense - his campaign to become the head of NATO meant that he was fully signed up to all the inclusivity and diversity bullshit. He needs sacking and someone who cares about the Military installed as Defence Secretary.

If I recall correctly he wanted the job as head of NATO and did not get it, that is why he is standing down at the next GE

It's been going downhill for a long time. Next they'll probably get rid of the GPMG because it's "too heavy".
Tossers.

Army offers £10k golden hello to drug shame soldiers: Astonishing policy to lure back troops who've been kicked out for using cocaine and cannabis - link

It's an old gun for sure but I've never met anyone who wanted it replaced. Like the SLR it was tried tested and above all trusted. It's the backbone of every infantry section not to mention armoured and combat support regiments. I cant imagine an infantry section without a Gimpy.

Just read a few articles which appear to support your pov. Maybe Biden was right to veto him after all. Never thought I'd say that.

How fit do you need to be to sit in a sea crate controlling drones?

How fit do you need to be to sit in a sea crate controlling drones? yeah right Not I posted on another thread i was doing some installations on a royal marines base and faced the fun of spending a few weeks on a frigate sailing as it turned out from the isle of wight to the Scilly Isles while they knocked the system into shape On board ship i am awarded ‘honorary’ officer status. It’s a bloody joke but it had some perks. But officers are responsible for their own fitness. Well thats what i was told. I wasn’t on board long enough. But a very quiet word with the royal marines PT instructor got me a few sessions with their raw recruits to see how bad i was The answer was not brilliant, but quite definitely a pass mark And the guy did get to chastise the poor bastard at the back of the 10k run with ‘that guy up there is old enough to have known your mother in the biblical sense and he’s way in front … etc’ The answer is even on a ship i had to shift my arse up and down ladders and along decks all day and even though no one ever asked the fact is a Royal Marines PT instructor said i was good enough. Admittedly only good enough to be their taxi driver but hell that was enough. That was the late 80’s by the way. Today i’m a bloody geriatric

There isn't anything that could replace it, and despite the Light Support Weapon version of the SA80 (now retired), there are now no plans to. The GPMG is perfect, gives a cone of fire rather than putting bullet after bullet in the same place, but it requires fit lads to carry it. Heavy bit of metal.

Many in the US military have to lug around their beloved ma deuce. They are not always mounted on vehicles and are still considered an infantry close support weapon by the USA.
