Has been for years apparently. I remember watching programmes about mice & rats in the palace of Westminster decades ago, leaking pipes & plumbing, heating that doesn't work properly. Essentially it's a fake gothic facade held up by a crumbling superstructure. Having said that I absolutely believe it should undergo a massive renovation. The facade and interior should not in anyway be altered but it should have desperately needed behind the scenes upgrades. And yes I know I'm talking hundreds of millions of pounds. But this is not only an iconic building recognised the world over, it is a part of out heritage our history. The monstrosity that is the Scottish parliament building cost the best part of half a billion, I'm sure the palace of Westminster is worth a similar upgrade. |
