I've noticed that the impressions on Dead Ringers are now mainly unrecognisable - except for Boris and Trump basically. I was wondering if it's now non-PC to do impressions because obviously the impressionist is copying (and often exaggerating) mannerisms and such like. Spitting Image for example used to do a very unflattering impression of that politician who used to spit when he talked - forget his name. But I just don't think that they would be able to do that now. And the impression of Nick Robinson should be very easy because of his croaky voice, but the impressionist doesn't do a croaky voice and the impression is completely anonymous. And Black people are very easy to impersonate but again they don't even seem to try.
I seems to be that the only people that they actually try to impersonate are white and Right wing - hence Boris and Trump get the full works. JRM also gets a pretty unflattering impression, but not a very accurate one. But where are the withering impersonations of the likes of Angela Rayner? She should be very easy to do, but the impersonations of her sound just like a normal person.
just a thought.

A good impression is slightly cruel as it exaggerates specific traits and mannerisms and makes people say things that one knows the real person would not say but may think. Comedy has gone down the pan in general and the Radio 4 programme that just relied on saying Brexit to get a laugh is symptomatic of the whole thing.

Yes - there are only three or four or five public figures that can be heartlessly caricatured now.
Donald Trump Suella Braverman Priti Patel Boris Johnson Elon Musk
(there may be one or two other minor figures)
Just about everyone else is going to be protected from the most vicious sort of ridicule. The formula is going to get tired pretty quickly.

Funny that the most unsympathetic, vicious caricature can also act as an opportunity to show your real character.

It's not just impressionists it's all comedy, these days comedians are frightened of being cancelled if they say anything that thin skinned lefties consider to be even slightly offensive.
As Ricky Gervais said - "They're only jokes".
