My thoughts (as someone with kidney failure being kept alive by dialysis): It is said that 40% of people over 60 do not have 100% kidney function ... which leaves them at risk of further deterioration of their kidneys caused by foods they have been eating most of their lives. All such foods should be labelled as not suitable for older people, overweight/obese people, etc ... as well as people with diagnosed kidney problems. What foods? Potatoes (especially chips!), white fish, tomatoes, cola drinks, milk, cheese, processed foods with phosphate additives, egg yolks, coconuts, bananas ... the list is long. There is also the need to reduce salt intake ... ideally to below 2 grams a day. My situation is that if I were to eat a large portion of takeaway cod and chips and a large cola drink it could kill me. I have to limit my milk intake to half a pint a day ... and only eat white bread. One fruit that definitely needs to be avoided is Starfruit: "Starfruit can have a harmful (toxic) effect for people who have kidney disease. The substances found in starfruit can affect the brain and cause neurological disorders".
