What a load of bollocks - can you provide evidence, links, data to your assertion ? When I search for information on Section 28, I find lots and lots of information which points to the complete oppsite of your unfounded claim. Read here how the Moral Right forced their so called "family values" upon people they looked down upon ( gay people ) How Section 28’s painful legacy is still being felt three decades on Matthew Todd explores how the most vicious piece of anti-gay legislation in modern times continues to affect the LGBT community. www.attitude.co.uk/culture/sexuality/how-section-28s-painful-legacy-is-still-being-felt-three-decades-on-295974/Moralising Thatcherites, acting like the Catholic Church, trying to force their outdated beliefs on others Like you provided evidence of your claim ? However you dont have to search for information on section 28 you just have to look at suicide rates during the timescale in question 1988-2003 and beyond commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-7749/Its quite obvious though that suicides went down during the period of section 28 and rose again after it was repealed . Take into account the time lag between death and coroners report and the timeline is bang on . Proving how many out of those numbers had issues with their sexuality is harder to prove but seeing as you started it with your assertion of ''section 28 helped drive many people to suicide'' I'll leave it to you to search for the proof of that What those statisticts show is that suicides GENERALLY went down amongst the whole population, it goves absolutelly no indication what so ever as to whether suicide rates went up, or down amongst gay people. Your post is based entirely upon assumption, the assumption that because suicide rates went down across the whole population, they must therefore have gone down amongst every section of society. Common sense should tell us what the major causes of suicide are, these include deprevation and poverty, lonliness, mental health issues and isolation, the feeling that there is no one to talk to. I know, and medical experts know that gay people are at least TWICE AS LIKELY to commit suicide Common sense should tell anyone with reasonable intelligence that legislation specifically designed to make Homosexuality unacceptable ( which Section 28 most certainly did ), will likely increase fear, lonliness, isolation and feelings of inferiority.

Same old usual lefy bollocks. The left love a victim jonksy and will find one in every walk of life be it gays ,blacks ,immigrants ,poor people ,disabled or any other percieved downtrodden of society . Right thinking people don't see that victimhood and in the main dont care what people are but more about what they can be . Thank You - you confirm what we allready knew Right / populist right leaning people dont care about such things as poverty, deprevation, discrimination, bigotry or attempting to make society better for everyone. Amazing when you consider that the topic here is "this is what the left have turned our country into"

Your tap dancing now Sid , not to mention that YOU started with the assumptions . That gay people are twice as likely to commit suicide (or so you say) would indicate that they are twice as likely to be the driver of the stats I provided . What you are saying is that you dont want gays included in stats of which they are twice as likely to part of ?? Give your head a wobble Anyone with any common sense would see that section 28 stopped the confusion being planted in young peoples minds . It didnt make homo's unacceptable it just sent a clear message that the rest of society could get by without having it thrown at us from every angle thank you very much .

People with Progressive attitudes / opinions do not turn sections of society into victims The victims allready exist, but the backwards elements of society either pretend they dont exist, ignore them or dont care. Applying your backwards theory would mean that Dr Luthar Martin King or Rosa Parkes were merely attempting to make black people in the American South "victims" ... well, they WERE victims. Politicians should do much more than shape the economy, its also about shaping society, attitudes, breaking down barriers and prejudices. With Conservatives its only monetary value that seems to count for anything, and often to the detrement of people.

Another nonsensical post In the last 40 years there have been many instances where UK unemployment has fallen, but not here in the North East. Based on your post, you would argue that unemployment must have fallen in the Northeast because unemployment in the UK has fallen. In England and Wales before Homosexuality was decriminalised, the crime figures for Blackmail fell, however there was an epidemic of instances of blackmail where homosexual men were the victims, it was the biggest single cause of blackmail amongst men. You would argue that blackmail against gay men MUST have fallen because blackmail generally fell - nonsensical reasoning. When a young person discovers they are, or could be gay or bisexual, the instinct is to talk to someone about it, and whether you like it or not, and no matter what argument you care to choose or put foreward, Section 28 made that immensely more difficult, and it deliberately created a hostile environment towards gay people. Section 28 is in the history books as one of Margaret Thatchers mistakes, and many Conservatives have apologised over it.

Labour is like a religion where it profits on these things, which is why it turned the system into a mental asylum. It's in the Right's interests to minimise these things in this country. Obviously they would have to reevaluate the meaning of some of those buzzwords. After all, discrimination in certain contexts isnt a bad thing.

I guess that would be why poverty, deprevation and the cost of living is all up, and why living standards and life expectancy is down, as compared to under the last Labour government. The evidence does not appear to back your claims does it
