They did not even bother to inform the minister for trade either, who looks like some complete waste of space.

I dare say that the Secretary of State for International Trade in July 2022 might have glanced at the Financial Times

Meh what a rubbish story.
They move production around all the time, BMW are still making Minis in the UK... in fact they just brought more of the manufacturing to the UK.
Plus, they won't be making any engines in eight years' time lol.

Our car industry here in the UK will become a thing of the past. I was reading an interesting post last night on it and this chap had exactly the view I have. The electric cars will be cheaper due to less components and will take over, but the electric cars will have level 5 automation and this is where the UK falls over. It will not have a clue how to achieve it. You know working out how a gear is going to turn another in a mechanical assemble is child's play compared to full AI. They tried it in Oxford University but got nowhere. BMW have moved to the land of the future electric car. In that land 67% of the population have been to university and most of the ones who have are science-based. We're just too scientifically backwards as a nation to achieve this kind of engineering and the factory making batteries may well need government subsidy. Making batteries is seriously competitive. Again it is complicated and science-based. Keep an eye on BYD for batteries. They have a lot of patents.

That guy was not far wrong on the Indian news channel in the OP. I heard on the news today the Volt factory was running out of cash and has managed to get alternative finance but was previously begging the government for £30m to cover operating costs. Oh and I heard the plan was that every car made in the UK will have these batteries. It sounds like communism and the command economy. They did not disclose who gave them the cash, but I can have a guess. I do not think it would be Uncle Sam.
