The pound is climbing against both the dollar and the Euro and employment is such that I can't hire anyone to do sod all. So what is going on ? I am certainly not working any harder. In fact I am not working at all. So how have things gotten so good ?

In fact I am not working at all. So how have things gotten so good ? We need to stem the climb of the pound. Devalue it if necessary. Our exports will get a boost if we do that.

Regardless of whether or not The Eurozone is in recession, I still dont understand why someone can claim things are "on the up" for our economy, when we are teetering on the very edge of a recession.
The very heavy reliance on Russian gas and oil by many European countries is the overwhelming factor

There are some miserable types who want to talk the country down, but this century we have had 5 quarters in recession under Labour with the financial meltdown 2008-2009 and 2 quarters in recession in 2020 under the Tories, owing to the over-reaction to the Chinese cough. More optimistic types, like Borchester prefer to believe in our country and not talk it down. We are not in recession.

I think Sterling has gone up as the EU and US are seen to be worse economically just now, markets are changeable.
