Dear Forumers,
In the past it seemed that there were many classic scandals in British politics. Such as the Profumo Affair, Labour MPs faking their own suicides, Conservatives having a lot of gay sex with rent boys, and Liberal leaders shooting people's dogs. But these days a lot of the political scandals just seem quite tedious and basic in comparison.

You say that politicians are still having a lot of gay sex, but there have not been any stories since the 1970s about Liberal leaders shooting people's dogs.

The scandals are still there but with everything else going on they are not really news worthy, that's the point of deflection.

Dear Forumers,
Apparently John Profumo would have become the Conservative Party leader, and therefore the Prime Minister, if it was not for the big scandal. I wonder if any other British politicians were basically stopped from probably becoming Prime Minister by a scandal of some kind. I suppose that the dog thing ended any chance at all for Jeremy Thorpe.

This is the beautiful film star Valerie Hobson, 1917 - 1998, and Mrs Profumo. And after the scandal was exposed she stood by her husband.  |

But surely the scandals are not like in the past. You do not see Sir Ed Davey having gay sex with people and then shooting them, and their dogs.
