• Lib Dem-run South Cambs District Council has been trialling a four-day week. • Government minister Lee Rowley told them to 'end this experiment immediately. The first town hall to introduce a four-day working week was yesterday dramatically ordered to end the experiment. South Cambridgeshire District Council was told by ministers to call an immediate halt to its controversial year-long trial. It was warned that giving staff an extra day off each week with no loss of pay is unlikely to provide value for money to taxpayers – and may breach its legal duties. The edict will come as a major blow to the local authority, which has insisted an initial three-month pilot was a great success despite officials taking longer to answer phones and process housing benefit claims. In a letter sent to Lib Dem council leader Councillor Bridget Smith yesterday, local government minister Lee Rowley wrote: 'I am writing to express my concerns regarding the extension of South Cambridgeshire's four-day working week trial until the end of March 2024 and to request formally that you end this experiment immediately. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12253049/Council-ordered-halt-4-day-week-immediately-minister-pens-fiery-letter.htmlLibDems, lol. So a tax payer funded group trying to reduce their working hours, also have the ability if they publish their own statistics to make it look like a success.
