The Oxford English Dictionary states you may refer to a court or meetng as a kangaroo court if you disapprove of it because it is unofficial or unfair, and is intended to find someone guilty.A kangaroo court is defined by wikipedia as a court that, among other things, may ignore due process and come to a predetermined conclusion. Both definitions fit, and therefore, Johnson was not wrong describing it as such.
