A colonel has claimed he was forced to quit the Army after he was criticised for stating that “men cannot be women”. Dr Kelvin Wright, 54, had been a Reservist commanding officer with 14 years’ unblemished service, including two tours in Afghanistan, before his “honour was attacked” with a transphobia complaint and an investigation he described as “hellish”. In May, he shared a post on his private Facebook account from Fair Play for Women, a campaign group that works with governing bodies to preserve women’s sport for those born female, which consisted of a quote from Helen Joyce, a feminist campaigner backed by the author JK Rowling. The quote, shared without any additional comment, said: “If women cannot stand in a public place and say ‘men cannot be women’, then we do not have women’s rights at all.” This prompted a junior officer to warn him that his gender-critical views could be at odds with Ministry of Defence transgender policies, before what Dr Wright calls the Army’s “LGBT champions” allegedly drew up a seven-page dossier about his “substandard behaviour” – which he was not allowed to see. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/06/29/colonel-forced-out-of-army-after-saying-men-cant-be-women/#:~:text=A%20colonel%20has%20claimed%20he,%E2%80%9Cmen%20cannot%20be%20women%E2%80%9D. If this is the 'modern' army, then trust me kids, we're fucked.

It is undoubtedly the most pressing issue in the country today, Red. Thanks for starting 5 threads a day on the subject.

What goes round comes round these self appointed and IMO politically motivated censors will be dealt with by the people who will not be silent for ever

It is undoubtedly the most pressing issue in the country today, Red. Thanks for starting 5 threads a day on the subject. It may not be a pressing issue but perhaps it might be unwise to dismiss attacks on freedom of expression so readily.
I don't claim to have the answers to, if you like, anti-progressive views and the harm those views might have on minorities who fall outside the 'conservative norm'. I do, however, worry about the effects of silencing views that are outside of the current paradigm; particularly when the expression of an opinion results in loss of position or excommunication from social networks.
I rarely share personal experiences, but I'll make an exception: back in the 1970s I was lucky enough to spend some time in Boston MA. I attended a debate, basically surrounding the depravity of 1960's youth and how it had led to so many "draft dodgers". A particularly right wing ultra-Christian speaker made his pitch and, I think to a man, the student audience stood and turned their backs to him.
In my opinion, to go beyond 'turning the back' is dangerous and risks the consequences Orwell warned of in 1984.
Who knows, the next paradigm might be total obedience to the state, or worse?

Darlings goal is total obedience to the EU - he would celebrate it.
