No kidding, that's interesting. Did you trace them using something like Ancestry.com? No I initially used the BMD records held by the Mormon church and no I’m not a Mormon a lot of people use their records who are doing family research. There is also this facility to use online www.freebmd.org.ukI don’t really like the paid sites or that census information has been sold off to them, once I got onto where they originated from I contacted local historical societies and they have a wealth of info and it’s from them I found out about he wapentake and so I got lots of info including microfiche from them I could view free through a machine at my local public library. Its from this info that I was able to piece together the real family history and not the fairytale version that was made up to cover the indiscretions of one old rascal. It all takes up a lot of time but reading some of the old documents can be informative and very entertaining Oh man, memories My grandmother introduced me to great uncle David a first degree radio ham nerd with a thirty metre tower in his back yard caoable of bouncing his morse code off the moon he said. He was heavily into the family tree and it his his research that my brother took up. Like you both made much of the mormon database and i remember many trips to country churchyards often when dad’s ford zephyr seemed an ‘unusual’ fit in the hedgerow in the lanes leading to the church. This peculiarity was answered by a curate who met us at one such place. Apparently the Ford Zodiac Estate was a popular choice among undertakers as the hearse and its wing mirrors were of course exactly in the same place as dads. We too have a serious black sheep. My grandfather on dads side was it seems abandoned in this country with his wife when the rest of the clan upped sticks and shipped out to Rhodesia when the faction living in the Weimar Republic saw trouble coming and baled out It’s just as well they left him behind as otherwise who would have got the IFF extension to Chain Low would be anyone’s guess. Grandad’s ancestors a few generations back included one of the whalers who divvied up to build the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay. When his work became too important to risk a V1 strike or worse the government upped the whole project and shipped it to Cardiff. Strange to think now it was a return to an old home. And for the purpose of the thread…. I identify as a viking and i’ve got the DNA, the steel blue eyes and i used to have the blonde hair to prove it. Sadly grey these days. Well that and a penchant for axes…..

That reminds me of a scene in BlackAdder Blackadder walks across the muddy dirt road just outside the castle gates - "Morning, Sir" "Good Morning, peasant" "Morning, Sir" "Good Morning, peasant"

lemme guess - a 6 foot 3 bloke identifies as a woman... I have no idea, but i was working in the dockyard at Barrow In Furness when a warship with a large contingent of female crew docked and all i can say is ‘lock up your sons’. My erstwhile colleague at a long defunct by then defence company made all sorts of allegations about working conditions there and i didn’t believe a word. Then a good few years later i found myself sent there to wrap a job up. Ye gods.
