I post this here because it is a highly emotive subject likely to induce understandable anger and I want to try and keep this as measured as possible.
That is not going to be easy as the details are sickening.
But people around the world including here in the UK have been paying to watch people in Indonesia torturing and often killing baby macaque monkeys on camera for their viewing pleasure. The tortures include cutting off fingers, using hammers on them, slowly killing one by gradually crushing its skull. One was burnt alive. Another was killed in a blender. At first the tortures were milder and freely posted on youtube but as the demand for ever more sadistic abuse escalated, the sadists started using Telegram as a platform, a site which values user privacy above content policing. The individuals involved and paying to watch the torture and killing, would themselves be telling the torturers what they wanted to see happen and were willing to pay for it. They were in fact directing it. In messages to each other they would delight in what they were seeing and in coming up with ever more sickening forms of torture and killing.
Many of those paying for this and giving the instructions appear to be otherwise normal people, often married and with families. At least one is known to be a nurse, another a teacher. The one who requested and paid for a monkey to be killed in a blender so she could watch proved to be a 46 year old grandmother in Alabama called Stacey Michelle Storey currently under investigation in the USA. She was notorious in this community of sadists for her exceptional cruelty.
Three women in the UK have been arrested for their involvement in paying for these torture videos. One if them is supposedly a 35 year old living in the Midlands with her parents and who loves birds. And yet she too is said to have been one of the cruellest in the group. All three UK women have been released pending further enquiries, their phones, laptops etc seized by the police. It will surely be a travesty if these three don't do jail time. Most of those involved are surely sexually sadistic psychopaths. It was actually stated that baby monkeys were abused because of their similarity to human children.
Feeling intensely angry, disgusted and sickened at this is the inevitable human response. I guess we all feel that.
But what of the implications? It is a well known fact that people who enjoy doing things like this to animals frequently fantasise about doing it to people. All the more so when the choice of animal is chosen for some measure of similarity to people. Many involved in animal cruelty for pleasure go on to harm humans, especially children. Each and every one of those men and women involved are a potential danger. I think they all need to be found and investigated and punished. Some should also lose their jobs. After all, would any of us like to be in the care of a nurse who gets off on this? Would anyone want their kids to be taught by a teacher who gets off on this? I also think that there ought to be immediate investigations by child protection agencies into anyone involved who is a parent of non-adult children. Should someone who wants to see a baby monkey killed in blender ever be allowed anywhere near a human child?
I also think crimes against animals, especially when so wilfully sadistic, should be punished far more severely than they currently tend to be, especially as some of those responsible go on to do terrible things to people, and most tend to have fantasies about doing so. These people are dangerous and ought to be treated as such.
