No. I did it as an agency chef for 3 or 4 summers when the camps had really high numbers plus cadets. It was infantry training so we didn't really see the Royal Engineers. Apart from the occasional Warrior it was all Landrovers, Pinzgauers and Vikings. I really liked the Vikings until I heard they were made of fibreglass. Those Vikings look like a modern version of the BV202 we used to have. WIKI says

Those Vikings look like a modern version of the BV202 we used to have. Powered trailers. Drive like a dumper truck with tracks. Made in Sweden I think, designed for snow. Just like the old BV202, made by Volvo, probably not the best pic I could fine but you get the drift.

The Viking would be cool to turn up to a festival in but a 6 wheel Pinzgauer is the one if you want to do some miles. Made in Austria.

I've heard of them (Pinz) but I never saw them. They were after my time. If you want to attract attention the old Stollie still takes some beating.

I saw a Stollie at a crusty festival in the forest of Dean back in the 90's. It rained for a week and the Stollie was the only vehicle that didn't get towed out by a tractor. Even the MKs were getting bogged down.

Go anywhere camper van for under £!00k. Under £100k, are you sure? OK I suppose it depends on the interior but when it come to expedition type vehicles £100k doesn't buy you much.

The Pinzgauers were brand new when I was on the camps. The drivers loved them. Reckoned they never got stuck. A bit small in the back though and only a tiny window flap with no AC so hot as hell in hot weather.

You'd have to buy a second hand vehicle and convert it yourself. They were £60k 20 years ago but I expect they are still worth most of that and would be £100k new now.

You have probably heard of EarthRoamer? They are in my unexpert opinion the best expedition vehicle money could buy. I believe they start at $500,000 and go up to $1.5 million depending on what you want and of course, budget. Not much good for this country, but I'd love to hire one for a year and travel around the US & Canada.

I'll be honest Monte, converted or not, I wouldn't buy a Pinz. I'm to old to rough it. It would be great for a young man, I'm past roughing it. I used to follow a couple on Youtube who lived in an EarthRoamer (In the US) yes it's expensive but it's a very capable expedition vehicle. If I could afford one I'd defo do it, even for just a year or two.
