An 'evil' killer who knifed his estranged wife to death and stole her jewellery to buy drugs while their children were at school has been jailed for life.
Quyum Miah, 41, was convicted of murdering his estranged wife after admitting theft and two counts of fraud.
He swiped 40-year-old Yasmin Begum's bank card and withdrew £800 after leaving the mother-of-two to die after the March 2022 attack in her home in Bethnal Green, east London.
Quyum Miah, 41, had a habit of stealing from his ex-wife to fund his drug habit, Southwark Crown Court heard
Miah was caught when detectives uncovered CCTV evidence connecting him with the crime, Southwark Crown Court had heard. Jailing Miah for life with a minimum of 33 years Judge Sally-Ann Hales KC said she was in no doubt he murdered his wife for financial gain.
Ms Begum was remembered by the Queen at a recent landmark event at Buckingham Palace to highlight such victims of what she called the 'global pandemic of violence against women'.
