Well, Boris did his best to shut Westminster down. Didn't turn out the way he wanted. So, I don't imagine The Daily Mail chavs will have any more luck. Coy in victory as usual. Too profound, Sheeps. We're only human. Could you dumb it down a bit?

If you remember the bizarre happenings in Westminster when Bercow and his remaining bunch of remainiacs forced a general election because they trying to thwart democracy and cancel Brexit, some people do have short selective memories. You mean after the 'advisory' referendum? Switzerland and Sweden hold advisory referendums too. In 2014, Sweden voted in an advisory referendum to change the side of the road drivers drive on. The Government found that it was too dangerous to implement, and they didn't implement the result of the referendum. There was no fuss because it was an advisory referendum. In Sweden, the people voted in an advisory referendum to put quotas on freedom of movement. In the end, the Government decided that it wasn't in the peoples' interests to have the quotas, and they were scrapped. There was no fuss because it was an advisory referendum. It's only Brexiters who don't know the difference between an advisory and a mandatory referendum. By the way, both Sweden and Switzerland rank higher than the UK on the Democracy Index than the UK (not surprising, given that the UK system allows a minority (43%) to rule the majority (how is that democracy?)) Except it was made very plain to the EU and Parliament this was the vote and it would be administered.

No what about it, Parliament used it as a campaigning platform.

No what about it, Parliament used it as a campaigning platform. Which is exactly what's supposed to happen after an advisory referendum. So that is why it was being shown as administered, advisory my backside.

Why do you drift off in to other counties politics, yesterday you were in France now you're Switzerland.
We are talking about the UK referendum, and the democratic rights of people who voted to leave, it was not 'advisory' otherwise we would not have left, in the delusional world of the remoaners they tried to convince everyone that it was just 'advisory' and not legally binding, remember Gina Miller who unsuccessfully tried to cancel Brexit, and to this very day Brexit is being sabotaged by the same undemocratic remainers.

There's no point discussing this with Daily Mail chavs. Listen to yourself: 'It was not 'advisory' otherwise we would not have left'. What?

For those who don't know the definition of 'landslide victory'. I think that you have forgotten what you said - noone is denying that there was a landslide. What I was saying is that people did not "unanimously" vote for him in 2019. As Darling pointed out, only a minority voted for him (or Conservative). People never voted for Blair unanimously but you and the other lefties were happy hash.

I agree with you on this, there's little point debating with you and other embittered remainers, it's clear your mindsets are stuck in the past, it's time to embrace Brexit, and let the UK thrive independently like our once Great country did, I suggest you move on and accept you lost (of course that was just advisory') ... LOL

LOL Sure. Advisory means mandatory. You're an inspiration to the Woke Left, Fairy. If an advisory referendum can be a mandatory referendum, then a man can be a woman. You popularised the idea that words mean whatever the hell you want them to mean. You inspired the transgender movement. You also inspired the Eco Warriors with your six-mile-long traffic queues out of Dover. Keep up the good work. The Left is relying on you to draw up its next strategy.

You could perhaps enforce a 'manifesto humiliation ritual'. Parties would be required to provide a simple line-item manifesto, with a one line entry for each of their high priorities. When the next election is declared, the party in power would be required to provide a single paragraph explanation for each item on why they failed. I thought I might point out the problem with that in all the following answers, Parliament thinks it has a trademark on democracy, which they would just carry on the same way blaming each other and doing as they wish. As not voted for by anyone.

Definition: "advisory" having or consisting in the power to make recommendations but not to take action enforcing them. "the Commission acts in an advisory capacity"
The UK referendum was not advisory, and it did not stipulate any such thing on the ballot papers.

The UK referendum was not advisory Errm, yes it was. “We are delivering on the will of the British people from the binding referendum we had in June 2016 and we are leaving the European Union.”
In the same House of Lords report that said referenda were not legally binding, the committee concluded that “it would be difficult for Parliament to ignore a decisive expression of public opinion”.
