So the question is, which posters are prepared to top themselves for the common good ? We don't need to top ourselves. Someone the UN perhaps needs to acknowledge the elephant in the room and tell governments in Africa and Asia to encourage people to stop having so many kids. Obviously that particular elephant will never be acknowledged because telling Africans and Asian to have fewar kids would be racist, the word of our epoch. I heard one of these African mums on documentary at a Western health centre for something and she said she had five kids and her husband wanted more, she had tears running down her cheeks. I think it is Islam in this case. It used to be the Catholics too though looking back even here at Grandparent generation there were bigger families. I only know as when I asked who fought in WW2 was just shocked about the number of uncles.

I'm not sure that's the right question to be asking. If the entire membership were to commit seppuku tonight their numbers would be immediately replaced by tomorrow's small boat arrivals, and completely dwarfed by the eleven jumbo-loads of 'regular' migrants arriving that same day. So we are getting 67 million illegal immigrants a year?

Obviously that particular elephant will never be acknowledged because telling Africans and Asian to have fewar kids would be racist, the word of our epoch. It took Catholics in the UK and Ireland long enough to work out that the Pill could be prescribed for "other illnesses", and pave the way for contraception to be tolerated, and then accepted.
And that was a long while after that, regarding children as security in old age was dropped as an excuse for large families, even in Ireland.
In countries still in poverty, or only just out of it, and where child mortality remains high, the conviction that having many children is a necessity to be looked after in old age.
Perhaps a way of encouraging migrants to stay home would be to increase aid to improve the life span of children and provide lifetime care where they are...
PS — some European countries, that lost many of their citizens in war, still encourage large families by offering money and large family reductions for travel and at some events...

How many fewer Africans would remove the carbon footprint of one fat westerner? It's around 15 I believe.

How many fewer Africans would remove the carbon footprint of one fat westerner? It's around 15 I believe. British women used to have an average of 2.6 children. Now it is fewer than 1.6. For the first time ever last year, half of women reached their 30th birthday without having a child. The fertility rate in the UK is now well below replacement rate and it continues to fall, meanwhile... The populations of more than half of Africa's 54 nations will double – or more – by 2050, the product of sustained high fertility and improving mortality rates. The continent will then be home to at least 25% of the world's population, compared with less than 10% in 1950. The combined population of both China and India are estimated to be over 2.8 billion people as of 2022. Asia's population is projected to grow to 5.25 billion by 2055, or about 54% of projected world population at that time. It would of course be racist to suggest that anyone with dark skin should have fewar babies.

Indeed, and the Catholic church's views on contraception is hardly a secret.

Got to keep striving for growth to keep our pyramid scheme of a pensions scam running or half the members of this board will have to switch to blended whisky and cancel their Daily Mail subscriptions. Waiting for the Tories to equalize UK living standards with those of sub-Saharan Africa will take too long to slow the sale of rubber dinghies even at the rate they are currently going.

And Islamic, though which is the greater problem with respect to birthdate probably needs to be reviewed. But before even that, if the need and instruction to have so many children was removed, the birthdate might be reduced without resorting to drastic measures…

It’s happened in the British Isles (I think, fewar offspring are not something I could easily identify). Remove the argument and perceived need to have large families, and it could almost be job done…

Re British women two factors jump out, one is women often work full time and the second is housing is so expensive.
Adults from working class backgrounds want a certain level of security / wealth so as the emotional powder keg they experienced is not transferred to their kids.
