You're having a problem with a door, aren't you? There's a door in your life that is creating a bit of a problem. It's not a major problem, but it's a problem, something of a nuisance. Right?
(Bear with me).

This thread is the only thing I’ve ever loved. It’s dead now. R.I.P Door thread. You’re with Jesus now. We will never see your like again.

On the off-chance that anyone is even mildly curious, this thread is about Barnum statements. It's about the trickery used by 'mystics', people who claim to be able to talk to dead relatives (usually for a fee).
It goes without saying that these people are conmen and women. They have been around a long time, though, so they've been able to develop their scam into a fine art.
A Barnum statement is a statement that applies to everyone but gives the impression of being particular to the individual being addressed. A 'mystic' will want to convince a 'client' that he has extra-sensory powers, that he knows things about him that he could only know if he has those powers. Supposedly, one method is to use the door trick above. The conman or woman will say in his most mystical voice that the client is having a problem with a door in his life. According to the theory, most people have a problem with a door, and so will, hopefully, be convinced of the mystic's abilities.
I was quite impressed with this. I'm currently having a problem with a key to a door that is quite a nuisance. I thought I'd ask whether it would have worked for anyone else, too.

Another which works very well is: 'You're thinking of moving, aren't you?' Though, I imagine this would get more hits with a younger group.
