England’s annual cheese-rolling event was a thriller and made the news in the US & Canada. Matt Crolla, 28, from Manchester won the first of several men’s races and 19 year old Delaney Irving from Canada won the women’s race after being knocked unconscious. Hundreds of people gathered near Gloucester to watch the Cooper's Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake race Monday, the Associated Press reported. The rules are simple: Be the first person to finish behind the 7-pound wheel of Double Gloucester cheese. Dozens of competitors chased the wheel of cheese down a 200-yard steep hill, but only one person could come out victorious. The event has been held at Cooper’s Hill since at least 1826, when the cheese rolling was mentioned in a message to the town crier, but the race may have been ongoing for centuries before that, according to Visit Gloucester. eu.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2023/05/30/cheese-rolling-race-2023-coopers-hill/70269026007/#:~:text=Canadian%20woman%20wins%20cheese%2Drolling,the%20cheese%2C%E2%80%9D%20Irving%20said. The worst injury of the day was a broken leg, so all in all, a superb day of classic English sport. Hurrah.

I did the food for a unicycling convention near to Cooper's Hill once and went along to have a look. I can confirm it is bloody steep. Quite a climb.

Of course, the joke is that as the hill is concave, the participants don't so much run down the hill as fall off it.
This year's winner was 19 year old Canadian Delaney Irving. Wonderful lass

Wonderful lass. It is indeed great stuff, the eccentric English at their best, superb. There are several races during the day, and it was good that Canadian Delany Irving was one of the winners because that meant the race got publicity in the US and Canada. I suspect most yanks would watch it and scratch their heads, I don't think they would understand it. But the Canucks are as mad as us.

The name is less important, what is important is the price you pay. You can buy Taylors and Grahams in any supermarket, you can also spend hundreds of pounds on a bottle of Taylors or Grahams. I'm sure you agree that age is more important than the name.
