I have to say the “flaming June” splashed over the media is the propaganda it surely is,a news presenter solemnly saying this is the hottest June for over 130 years, fascinating stuff but how relative is that to the existence of the earth. They then wheeled out some woman from the care industry who proclaimed she’d never known it so hot and they’d had to watch out for people in their care suffering dehydration (that is their job) I have to say I’ve never known a winter so cold and extended as the winter of 1963 the eggs froze in the larder, canals as commercial carriers were finally killed off but as far as climate history proves nothing. Saw a local paper piece that if proof were ever needed that there’s a climate emergency this was it and a picture of a bus and van stranded in water in the dip in the road under a bridge. No what it proved was that the councils have cabinets and policies on international affairs but fail to do what is their purpose and regularly clean the road grids Did you see the thousands of dead fish starved of oxygen by the continuous high temperatures. Do you know why it was so cold in 1963? The only dead fish I have seen are starved of oxygen from sewage.....Never mind keep enjoying your wet dream whilst others know the truth.

The reason they said on the news was that the hot weather means that less oxygen is held in the water but… it was hot last year and we didn’t get this problem. They explained that the high amounts of rain washed minerals and dirt from the fields into the river. This caused a high growth of bacteria that depleted the oxygen . It wasn’t as simple as hot weather . It was a combination of events . Jonksy was right too . Sewage depletes oxygen through bacteria.

Plus water polluted by plastics which add to the acidity of water reducing oxygen even further.

It was the number of continuous hot days that did for the fish. Last thousand years? Why not last million or billion? When the earth was forming June was very hot indeed.

Climate change is never as simple as "it was hot." Ditto lots of dead fish. Indeed. But the heat was the deciding factor in this case. Be interesting to see how all the soil washed into the rivers when it didn't rain. Or why they dumped sewage when it didn't flood.

No it wasn’t . The minerals from soil was a major factor . You could say that the heat exacerbated the soil effect.

No it wasn’t . The minerals from soil was a major factor . You could say that the heat exacerbated the soil effect. Except the amount of minerals in the soil hasn't changed. And how did they wash into the rivers if it didn't rain, and how did it happen in so many rivers at the same time. High temperatures lead to algal blooms which cause low oxygen levels, killing fish as a result. The Environment Agency received more reports of dead fish than the same time last year. Ali Morse, from the Wildlife Trusts, said the scorching temperatures caused plants to wilt, which restricted the food supply for insects that feed on nectar and pollen.

Do you know why it was so cold in 1963? Seen it all before, many of the dead fish were in canals,do you appreciate how dirty canal water is how people businesses and councils throw their crap in the water companies. As a kid for a short time an angler later I had a canal boat, add hot weather to still already polluted water what do you expect? As to 1963 bad weather from Scandinavia and Russia.
