Lithium Ion batteries are not the best tech around but until something better is rolled out, they are the in demand batteries for the present. Regarding China, it's not good to be dependent on a dictatorship for tech, history shows us it's not good to hand a dictator leverage over yourself. Strategically we need independence from dictatorships, not dependence. Anyway, this JLR plant gives the UK some distancing from China. The coming lithium mines in Cornwall will provide the UK with an independent source divested from China and may be one of the reasons JLR chose to stay with the UK. cornishlithium.com/ |
