Some time ago I surmised that the fairly recent rise in Autism was caused by women taking on more stressful working roles outside the home and having to make decisions previously made by men. Recent research suggests that raised levels of cortisol (a stress hormone) during pregnancy may be a causative factor for autism. I also thought that the fact that some autistic people (like Elon Musk!) have exceptional out of the ordinary intellectual abilities suggests that the rise in autism is an evolutionary process. Prior to the mid 20th century women were far less exposed to the complexities of the world ... then came television ... and the rise of modern media. Now we have Social Media. One autism researcher said that a time will come when everybody will be autistic. If, however. mankind succeeds in constructing a planet-wide stress free society ... run by AI ... geniuses will no longer be needed and everybody will be neurotypical, maybe with a lower IQ than is the average today?

It's vaccinations IMO.
Kids are getting more vaccs and earlier.
Some get side effects just like COV-ID vaccs and increased heart problems in athletes.

It's hereditary. As I understand the current thinking, if you can't identify the hereditary link then chances are you don't have autism. It's in the standard diagnostic manual for it, I know that much for certain.

The increase may be just selection.
250 years ago, the inability to read social cues easily, adapt to change or settle into undefined arrangements with others may well have outlined a far more severe impediment to your life chances.

I suspect that cases of autism haven’t risen , just more people being diagnosed . People diagnosed as autistic now might just be considered strange or eccentric in the past .

A recent Israeli study shows a strong link between autism and nitric oxide in the brain. Perhaps this will lead to some chemical remedy. However, being "on the scale" myself, do I want a remedy? No.
