If you look at the world now evil stalks the globe, Americans shoot each other, and no one does anything about it, wars everywhere, starvation in Africa, the weather, wokery, inflation, covid, etc.
Its a scientific fact that for every law there is an equal and opposing law. Nothing you do makes a difference.
For every good deed, new evil is enacted, elsewhere.

Nothing you do makes a difference. For every good deed, new evil is enacted, elsewhere. It is not a scientific fact that for every law there is an equal and opposing law. Newton's third law states that for every action (force) in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction. It does not refer to good and evil. If you read the Good Book you'll find that evil has its day but loses out in the end. Presently evil seems to be winning.

If you're a glass half empty kind of person, you might not notice as much competence and kindness in the world as a glass half full person might. Yes, mankind has made many egregious errors and done many horrific things, but has also grown a vast knowledge base and made many positive accomplishments for the good of ours and other species. All is not yet lost. Honor and goodness are still present. If you think that nothing you do makes a difference in the world, teach a functionally illiterate adult to read. It won't cost you anything but time and it will change someone's life immeasurably. In the meantime, here's something to cheer you up. www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/scientists-taught-pet-parrots-to-video-call-each-other-and-the-birds-loved-it-180982041/

Oh, evil loses out in the end. Tell that to the middle aged woman, at the start of the Ukranian war, on the street at a rail station, her rolls and food for the trip to safety all over the ground, dead. Or the kids at the maternity unit, body parts flying everywhere. Etc. In the end is too late.
Thats irrelevant though Darling, its just my interpretation, nowt happened if i dont want it too. I am a half empty person, a perfectionist. If i see two puppys playing, parrotts squaking, kittens rollicking, that dead woman is still in my head. And i will want those responsible to pay, and they would if i could make it happen.
Full marks to the defence secretary re missiles. Id have done it at the start.

This is reputedly the most evil of planets in God's creation. We are the only ones evil enough to kill Christ. Is that true? No idea but I understand that if it is true then we are the most valiant and each generation that follows is even more so as the final reckoning approaches, in order to rise up in the fight against the adversary. It kind of changes the perspective of our existence. It's worrying to wonder just how low we will be prepared and allowed to go.

We're mostly agreed around here that sons aren't responsible for the sins of their fathers. There's no great enthusiasm for paying reparations to the descendants of former slaves, for example. Your God seems to think otherwise, though. I've no recollection of killing Jesus or eating forbidden fruit, but that hasn't stopped your God dishing out the punishment (or so people of your religion claim). Seems a bit unfair. And claiming to be the Messiah was a very popular pastime in Jesus' neck of the woods at the time of his crucifixion. How was anyone supposed to know that Jesus was the real Messiah ? It's not as if he didn't have a lot of competition for the title.

The only real evil is the constant and genetically fundamental need for power, which is the way all living things continue to exist. Howevever it is one thing for humpback whales to form circles of bubbles around herring in order to eat. That is using power to survive. It is another when this fundamental need for power to survive is expressed between human beings because we dont have to kill to live. Yet the genetic impulse is still there. And not even the idea of some greater force called God by any name will stop it. Evil, variously called Satan, is the absence of Good. It is written into the definition of life and Good is the effort it takes to get rid of it. I doubt if yhat eill ever happen. It is trying to change one of the fundamental genetic aspects of life. The best we can do is point the way and make laws in which doing good is easier than doing evil. But the evil will always be there.

Evil is an appetite for injustice What's just or unjust is a matter of opinion, so that doesn't really tell us much.

Evil is an appetite for injustice What's just or unjust is a matter of opinion, so that doesn't really tell us much. i'm not really giving a functional definition, I'm talking about a source/ motivation. Evil is background colouring to perception that is similar to good person's background wish for justice. If you know what to look for you can detect it and save yourself a lot of grief by avoiding people.

Evil, variously called Satan, is the absence of Good. I'm no philosopher, but isn't an "absence of good" equally likely to lead someone to become Amoral, rather than IMmoral. I'd imagine that "evil" arises from a conscious decision to do "bad" things, rather than to simply not do "good" things.

We don't have to use my reference frame, we can use this person's I may be misunderstanding you, but you appear to be saying that 'justice' is an objective concept. Not everyone will say that lying is evil. Some will say the end justifies the means, etc.
