Police Scotland is to introduce a clean-shaven policy for all frontline officers and staff. The police force said the beard ban, to be introduced on 29 May, is necessary so that officers and staff can wear FFP3 face masks. According to the BBC, hundreds of police officers and frontline staff will have to shave off their beards and moustaches. Four are reportedly considering legal action. www.personneltoday.com/hr/police-scotland-beards-ban/#:~:text=Police%20Scotland%20is%20to%20introduce,can%20wear%20FFP3%20face%20masks. Personally, I agree. These days standards have gone to ratshit. Three or four days stubble is not a beard, it's just scruffy. In recent years a scruffy appearance, training shoes, long hair, no tie, unshaven, has become acceptable, the norm. In my sincere opinion this I hope heralds the begining of the end of scruffy being acceptable.

Hope it applies to women officers too... It should apply to all police officers in the UK. As an aside; the reason we were not allowed to grow beards in the army is because if you had a beard, a respirator wouldn't form an airtight seal around your face which meant if you sniffed poison gas you would die a slow and horrible death and become a nuisance. Unless of course, you were a Pioneer Sgt. The army lives on tradition and traditionally, and I'm talking hundreds of years ago, the pioneer sgt was responsible for all sorts of gruesome things but was also the regiments blacksmith, as such he was allowed to grow a beard to protect his face from the heat of the forge. These days, well actually I'm not sure about these days, I left in 1999 but until that date most infantry regiments had a pioneer section who specialised in things like fortifying defensive positions, so due to tradition pioneer section sgt's in modern infantry regiments were allowed to grow a beard. It was not a requirement, but they could if they so wished. Here endeth the sermon.

Well whatever the case you’re not the local authority or in the case of Police Scotland the ruling party and it’s they and their policies which are in force which will prevail.

Indeed, and I doubt this will ever be an issue in England, where 90% of the British population live, because England must be the only country in the world where the majority are treated like a minority.

Incidentally, I don't think it will be lawful, as it is indirectly discriminatory to religious minorities and women with beards.

The same reason (ok they say face mask not respirator) is given for the police requirement. I say it’s a sad day when the public chose to use mustard gas instead of rocks and molatov cocktails as the anti-pug agent of choice but hey ho

Close scrutiny of the newspaper coverage shows Sikh Officers stating their relief they will be exempt from this requirement. One way of culling their numbers when XR starts using Ricin i suppose.
