Anthony Cheyne makes videos of near death experiencers on you tube, these people arnt flaky nutters out for attention. They all report watching a film of their lives, imagine that. The effect of having to do that is profound, god help us all. Last night a man was broken hearted over the way he treated his wife, he survived, married 47 years 15 grand kids, or something like that.
Surely a pain like that, regret over lost chances, people, getting things wrong, being selfish, abusive, violent, ignorant, immature.....
Etc. Thats gonna hurt. Bad.

It's one reason why we don't just need to forgive others, but we also forgive ourselves. After all, we are all flawed so to hold negative emotions and unforgiveness is really destructive.

A woman I knew who had suffered most of her life from bouts of severe mental illness was told that her mother was "at death's door". A family member came over from Ireland and persuaded her to "see her mother" before she died. Her mother made a very detailed apology for the way she'd treated her. This "confession" brought about a remarkable improvement in the woman's mental health.

'One's life flashing before one's eyes' in accident situations has long been recognised as a real phenomenon. The thinking is that the mind is racing at an incredible pace to find a situation from the individual's history where something similar occurred, to find a solution for the current predicament. I know the situation you describe isn't identical, but there is probably a similarly practical explanation.

You struggle and that struggle is part of the lives of others. One day we will all get out instruments in tune and tell the truth to each other.
