Ford doesn't build any vehicles in the UK these days, does it?

Exactly, hasn't built cars here since 2000 and vans here since 2012. Obviously Brexit to blame and not the 'awesome era' of membership of the EU.

Is anyone blaming Brexit for Ford's exit from vehicle manufacturing in the UK?
Your Guardian link is from 23 years ago, long before Brexit.

Why is this story from 23 years ago part of the Brexit conversations ? Is Vinny now digging so deeply for a subject that he has to go back that far? He opened the thread. No one mentioned Brexit. Clearly there is a screw loose and it isnt in any vehicle.

Because decisions made long before Brexit ended up being blamed on Brexit.

Because decisions made long before Brexit ended up being blamed on Brexit. Dont be ridiculous. Most people arent discussing Brexit anymore, let alone going into history to try to start yet another unnecessary argument which is just a rinse and repeat operation. Vinny needs to get a life.

Too many businesses closed down their UK production lines when we were in, even HP Sauce is made abroad. Even Colgate toothpaste is now imported.
And yet membership of an organisation that basically gave rise to the asset stripping of our country is touted by some as being "progressive".
Is it fuck.

And it shows how shit things were when we were in it. Ford is in financial trouble now. As cars switch to electric it turns out China can do them cheaper and better. So as it stands the only division turning a good profit are the pickup trucks, presumably because they need a lot of energy which batteries are hard-pressed to supply. Even so China has a mini electric pickup truck with 100kwh of battery power. It's too early to tell if Ford can hold out in this market or not. You see Western production costs are far more than in the East. The factories are often ageing and not keeping up with the new automated ones.

I certainly see the West being flooded with cheap rubbish Chinese cars that end up being just like consumer electronics and being totally disposable after about 5 years of service. I certainly do not see anyone bothering to keep 20 year old BYD's, Great Wall, Geeley etc on the road - they will all be in landfill.

Just read today Germany maybe in trouble due to US sanctions being imposed on China re supporting Russia which means no German cars going to China their biggest export market.
