The EU's Horizon programme for scientific funding awarded money to levitate. One of the participants apparently was UCL. The bulk of it was to do with some Spanish university.
It seems like somewhere they made the technology open source. Anyhow this chap built one to their design.
At the beginning of this video you get to see what it does. The rest is how to build it and right at the end it had the details of this grant.
I'm sure you will feel your tax money is being well spent.
