BBC claims anyone who doesn't back Sadiq Khan's ULEZ is 'far right' and a 'conspiracy theorist'
Story by George McMillan
The BBC has been slammed for its coverage of ULEZ protests in London, after a news presenter called those demonstrating “conspiracy theorists” and said they were part of “far-right groups”.
Yesterday, protesters gathered in Trafalgar Square to voice their opposition to the expansion of the ULEZ zone, which will result in hundreds of thousands more drivers facing a daily fee of £12.50 for using London’s roads.
The scheme is currently limited to the area within the North and South Circular roads.
BBC London presenter and reporter Alpa Patel opened the evening news with coverage of the event, she said: “Local protesters and mainstream politicians were joined by conspiracy theorists and far right groups.”
There were no interviews with protesters and it was not clear what “far-right” groups were being referred to.
The moment was clipped up and posted to social media by a number of users, with many left outraged by the broadcast.
GB News’ Martin Daubney tweeted: “Why is it that anybody and everybody the BBC disagrees with these days is "Far Right?”
"It isn't "Far Right" to object to being charged £12.50 every day to drive your car! It's just "right!””
IMHO the BBC she longer be funded by Licence Fees , and let it sink or swim

By the time the licence fee is scrapped the country that we used to love will have been destroyed by the race-baiting bigots that Sadiq Khan depends on.

If that wasn't a mistake on your part, then it was a disgusting insinuation made or repeated by yourself.

It would be interesting to know how the BBC arrived at the view that 'conspiracy theorists' and 'far right groups' were present as they presented no evidence to that end. It would be interesting what conspiracies they are referring to and what far right groups. It seems like either very sloppy reporting, pure invention or just parroting Khan

Do you really not realise that “Local protesters and mainstream politicians were joined by conspiracy theorists and far right groups.” clearly means that the BBC were not saying all that were there were such oddballs?

No they were saying that conspiracy theorists and far right groups were amongst those that joined the main protestors. They didn't exclude other groups from having joined in too but it was completely dishonest of GB News to misrepresent it.
But hey ho suckers will always fall for stuff like that won't they

Is this what Khan said, or are you just making this piece up to suit yourself?

But hey ho suckers will always fall for stuff like that won't they They said nothing about "main" protestors quoting your excerpt. They only singled out conspiracy theorist and far right groups as having joined "local" protestors and MS politicians. Seems Handyman's OP is valid and sandypine's observation carefully goes unanswered.

I suggest they probably talked to some of the groups, recognised faces from other demos and heard some of the chants. All sorts of extreme groups get themselves involved in far more mainstream demos.

No because if as stated these oddballs groups 'joined' those not of their ilk there for the main demonstration purpose a) the BBC clearly are not calling the main protestors conspiracy theorists and far right (because a distinction is drawn) and b) it is fair to call those there for the purpose of the stated demo the 'main protestors'

So they were saying that if you're not a local and a mainstream politician then you are a conspiracy theorist and/or part of far right groups. They said that such groups joined in with local protesters. That is not the same as saying if you are not one you must be the other. Who knows what the beliefs or why many protesters joined in or what their different reasons were? We have only been offered two reasons, possibly based upon the recognition of some of those involved.
