I wouldn’t lose much sleep if horses racing over jumps were banned but this does seem to be another platform for virtue signallers . We race horses because we like to see ( and bet on) horse racing just as we raise pigs because we like the taste of pork. We don’t need to eat pork , we dont need to race animals . We do it because we like it. If woke liberals succeed in banning horses racing over the sticks , they will just move on to dog racing or cat fanciers shows . Who knows ? We are, essentially, omnivores that is why we eat meat and veggies, eating is essential forcing horses to jum over hurdles is not. But you still don't know which horse won that Grand National that was ridden by Lester Piggott. Back in the day, the Grand National meeting also featured flat racing. I think it was that first race of the meeting that was a seller for two year olds and the winner would then be auctioned. The winner of that race was Red Rum, subsequently ridden by no other than Lester and eventually bought by Ginger McCain for owner Noel Lemaire; the rest is history. |
