Brexit critic who attacked Tory ‘mismanagement’ to set rates at Bank of England
An economist who has criticised Conservative fiscal policy and warned of the negative impacts of Brexit is to join the Bank of England's rate-setting panel.
Economist Megan Greene, the global chief of American risk management firm Kroll, will replace Silvana Tenreyro when her term ends in July, the Treasury has announced.
Ms Greene will take up the post as an external member of the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).
While little is known about her personal views, in October last year Ms Greene criticised Liz Truss's Government and its economic policies.
“There has been a lot of economic mismanagement,” she said of Truss's administration in an interview with the BBC's Today programme.
She has also previously spoken about how Brexit has hurt the UK economy and business investment.
“Brexit is bad for the UK economically,” she told Bloomberg while chief economist at Manulife Asset Management in December 2017.
