/photo/1 This guy is spot on. Bring the cost of a pint down, or wages up. Cut tax on beer, it doesn't impact the wealthy, it does nothing to make people healthier, it just drives people out of the pubs and puts bar staff out of work.
Any problem drinker can buy cheap booze from the off licence or supermarket, or, brew their own untaxed booze in absurd quantities.

Average cost of a pint of bitter in the UK is £3.60,lager is £3.86 and Guinness is £4.50..
I understand the arguments of demand and available outlets, but these prices are ridiculous when, in London, I can get good beer for under £2.30 a pint, and Guinness for under £3.00 (I don’t drink lager).
Not sure where the fault lies, but the consumer is paying…

Government taxes on alcohol are too high, the chains also put too many costs upon tied pubs.
And as a result of over inflated land prices, pubs are worth more as rubble than they are as pubs. Action is necessary to save the pub trade.

It was the Luddites who smsshed new machines which made a lot of people redundant and they thought that everything would return as it was before.
Instead the machines were fixed and the Luddites thrown to jail or even hanged. You can't turn back the clock.
I guess we are on the verge of a similar era where the development of AI will make a lot of people unneeded.
I wonder are there going to be new Luddites.

Pardon my cynicism but I think all this excitement about AI is going to be as misplaced as the excitement over 5G and driver-less cars (neither of which have any practical benefit). The tech industry is notorious for over selling the potential of their inventions.
