The pound fell against the dollar on Friday as new figures showed a gloomy picture for the UK economy. Sterling slipped to $1.11, after rallying on Thursday as Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned. It came as official figures showed government borrowing rose to its second highest September on record. www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-63340725And this after 12 years of Tory misrule!!! And you want Johnson and the Tories back? You must be bloody crackers. Another 12 years of this and we really will be begging in the gutter.

I thought the new chancellor was supposed to have steadied the ship and mollified the markets with U-turns and a totally different economic direction.

We all know the war in the Ukraine is Globally unsettling the markets, it's a mixture of many things destabilizing the pound, and its not just the pound.
Wars have that effect.

If Hunt has a new economic direction he must have the only compass in the world with NESW and D for downwards on it. Especially since he and Johnson hate each other and Hunt won't be there for more than 5 minutes after Johnson gets back.

You know that the reason the UK currency has tanked is due to covid, the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis - not the Tories. What's that you say? What about the other nations in the world who are facing the same crises and whose currencies haven't gone through the floor? Yes. Well. Ahem. I'm beginning to think you're probably one of those Anti-Growth Conspirators spreading their nasty propaganda. (BTW. Do you have the address of their Headquarters as I would like to apply for a copy of their manifesto.)

No lunatic boomerang sanctions have an effect, that idiot loco Joe Biden said the ruble would be rubble, instead it was the strongest performing currency in 2022,and Russia exported $200 billion in oil,Lol!

Who caused the energy crisis?

Another thing we've learnt from wars there are winners and losers Putin carefully planned who he wanted to be winners and loser's, although some things are out of his control he still has bargaining power.
As for Biden ... well what can you say, I'm surprised he even knows there's a war.

Labour would borrow, what they wouldn't do is borrow to give tax cuts to millionaires, and historically the Tories have borrowed more than labour.

You shouldn't read too much into exchange rates. Exchange rates are driven by very short term traders who try to make profits over imbalances in currency valuations. It's not a reflection of the UK economy. For that you need to look at the stock markets which take a more long term look at economic prospects.

What do you think they do, huddle in dark corners trying to bring the country to its knees? Are they the same as the Remainer conspirators trying to make the chaos of Brexit worse? There are no conspirators. What there is are ordinary decent people trying to salvage a living from the wreckage Brexit and Johnson have caused. ( And I was a Brexiteer until Cameron got in and both sides started acting like spoiled children.) You've had your time. 12 years of it. You've failed miserably. To think we have children going hungry in this once civilised land is shocking enough. To think some people want the Tories to continue this disgrace and humiliation while whinging "It's not our fault, it's everybody else's." would be risible if it wasn't so tragic.

So you were a brexiteer when your party were in power and there was no chance of it happening - but as soon as Labour lost power and brexit became a possibility you changed your mind... nothing like a bit of consistency...

Don't be silly. Anti-growth conspirators? Yep. What do you think they do, huddle in dark corners trying to bring the country to its knees? Yep. Are they the same as the Remainer conspirators trying to make the chaos of Brexit worse? Yep. The trade unions, with their coordinated industrial action. The eco-warriors, stopping ordinary people getting to work. The Labour Party encouraging if not orchestrating the whole thing and the left wing media constantly talking the country down. Oh and useful idiots like you blaming worldwide events on the Tories. There are no conspirators. Bullshit. What there is are ordinary decent people trying to salvage a living... Nope, we're doing just fine thanks. You've had your time. 12 years of it. You've failed miserably. To think we have children going hungry in this once civilised land is shocking enough. To think some people want the Tories to continue this disgrace and humiliation while whinging "It's not our fault, it's everybody else's." would be risible if it wasn't so tragic. Dribbling nonsense.
