I c an see all you fools predictably foaming at the mouth in defence of golliwogs. But the golliwog itself is an obvious racist caricature - it is instantly obvious just by looking at one - and the motives of anyone who plasters their business with them must be suspect. Those defending golliwogs are mostly closet racists themselves, as you lot in this thread so far appear to be. Are you saying that caricatures must be banned. If I recall many Labour members were in support of a giant mural caricature of bankers that accentuated their Jewishness through physical representation. It seems closet racists are everywhere but only some are unacceptable. I never supported that mural either. |

Her aunt, Kate Hudson, found a blackface minstrel toy in her attic that had belonged to the Upton children, left behind from an earlier visit. This toy, which she named "Golliwogg", provided inspiration, and the first story was completed in 1894.

It is seriously amusing how easily the typical closet racist right winger is triggered by this sort of thing. All the usual suspects have turned out in force for this one, and they accuse the left of being obsessed with identity trivialities, lol.
