I feel our freedom to express ourselves has got to the same state as the former East Germany.......As usual, academics are the source of all this nonsense. It was the police college that invented non-crime hate incidents. Instead of applying common sense and completely abandoning the practice they've issued further guidelines. Poor old hapless plod has been left to interpret it.

The Home Secretary has scolded a police force for sending five officers to a family-owned pub to seize a collection of golliwog dolls, it was revealed yesterday.
An anonymous complaint was made about the White Hart Inn in Grays, Essex, and 15 dolls were seized because their presence was a suspected 'hate crime'.
Suella Braverman is said to have been furious about the approach, which also saw police question pub owner Benice Ryley, and has told Essex Police that bosses should be focusing on catching real criminals rather than seizing toys.
Benice Ryley, 61, was quizzed by six officers after police received an anonymous complaint
about the golliwog display at The White Hart Inn in Grays, Essex
The College of Policing issued updated guidance last month stating that non-crime hate incidents should not be recorded where there is no basis to conclude that an incident was motivated by hostility.
The guidance also states: 'Wherever possible, freedom of speech should be prioritised.

All this will do is make people more determined than ever to buy, source, access a Gollywog, ffs I cant believe this is 21st century UK.
Edit: The woke wanker who made the complaint should not be allowed anonymity, all this achieves is more woke wankers making more anonymous woke complaints. If these people are so offended by Gollywogs, they should stand up for their principles, such as they are, and be counted, rather than hiding behind anonymity.

If I recall many Labour members were in support of a giant mural caricature of bankers that accentuated their Jewishness through physical representation. The problem does not lay with the doll or the name Golliwog, it lays with the usual right-wing dickheads, maybe like some of those who attacked taking the knee, in using the term wog (later softening to Western oriental Gentleman, but thought to have arisen from the name Gollywog) and or Gollywog as a derogative term aimed at Black people. They are the people who gave the use of the doll or its name, as being a racist gesture. To display a shelf full of these dolls could be described as: There is nothing wrong with these dolls, I like them and I mean no harm. This is a free country I can display them if I want to. Up yours, I like them, 'we all know what they mean' wink wink. Or just bad taste. |
