Let the British technology stagnate eh? I heard the other day on the BBC the suggestion we should go back to water wheels on streams. Actually I have but it is a different topic. May I invite you to create it? This country is no longer inventing anything. This system I propose is as far as I can tell technically viable and economically viable as well, especially given the bulk of the cost would be the part of it that has an indefinitely long lifespan. You can heat sand up and cool it down as many times as you like.
To make money in Britain needs our firms to be ahead of the technology so we get it running before anyone else and then we both use it ourselves to improve our economy with cheaper electricity, and we also sell it to the world at the same time. But I can all but guarantee if anyone reading this thread were to act and get down to the lab and start work on it, it would not be anyone from here. It will most likely be a Chinese firm or failing that maybe an American one. We just don't move fast enough in the marketplace. Regulatory issues would guarantee we fall behind even if the motivation by industry were there. By the way, SMR reactors: Rolls Royce - no where near, Japs - have a working system on the market.

Move on. Find a different topic. Where are you moving to?
The jungle?

The jungle?

Can you actually be of some use here and let us know the breakdown in costs of a gas fired power station as per cost of gas as a percentage of the price etc. I want to know what is costing all the money. Labour? Capital financing? fuel?

Labour? Capital financing? fuel? Your topic was electricity storage. I have already explained that point for you several times. For that reason you should close this topic. If you then want to discuss energy topics in another topic I will pleased to do so.

I'm not finishing this thread because you have no inclination of saying more than you have done, which is not a lot. I just asked for a positive contribution. The reason I ask was to get a better idea of the economics of the electricity market in order to see what works economically, given storage has to be commissioned with the supply considered with it. I mean who better to ask than an expert who tells us he has worked in this industry all his life. You should be able to give me a ball park figure. If you can't I'll go looking myself.
