It’s standard practice now to target motorists and it isn’t confined to labour though they look more the willing to bite the hand that feeds them.
Traffic lights deliberately set to cause jams along with hardly used bike lanes that take up what was a whole running lane and traffic calming that then causes so many jams they justify what they’re doing by citing traffic pollution (idiots)
Cyclists are set on a no fault god like pedestal above pedestrians and motorists.

These cock-ups happen — usually because of incompetence and inexperience of the people left to put such systems in place.
Another example is the holiday-time hold ups at Dover which are all the result of incompetent UK Brexit negotiating staff not drilling down into the actual agreements that were being signed up to and understanding the full details which have since caused such anger and disruption.
In one attempt to assuage opinion is the government’s change of GB to UK on vehicle identification to symbolise the unity as a nation and is part of a wider move towards using the UK signifier across government but although it might keep DUP happy, it’s another check to delay each border crossing by a few seconds longer…

It has been a annual custom of the frogs to go on during holiday times.
EDIT: Do note the year this was reported........Calais strike disrupts cross-Channel travel for third day

Nothing to do with customs.
It’s the extra passport checks for non-EU passport holders required at all entry points in to the EU…

Striking ferry workers shut down the Channel Tunnel again
Lille (France) (AFP) - Protesting French sailors halted Eurostar trains by again blocking the entry to the Channel Tunnel in Calais on Tuesday, AFP reporters said, with migrants using the opportunity to try to break into stationary vehicles.

Despite continuing hold up of freight traffic, car and passenger traffic by ferry and train hasn’t suffered the same delays. Admittedly, reduced passenger travel during Covid helped (even with the additional health checks). Additional passport checking facilities have been installed at Dover and extra frontier police are staffing them. I’ve travelled by both ferry and Shuttle since mid-2022 with no noticeable delays. I’ve also travelled by Eurostar and not noticed delays. If you’re citing strikes, I suggest the UK transport strikes are causing just as much inconvenience to international travellers as any you’re dragging up here…
