I went to a local town I have visited on and off for years only to find every car park had now been Ringo'd.
To pay you use an app on your Smart phone or pay by making a call on your Smart Phone to Ringo.
Now I have a 4g mobile yet could not call - blocked, after trying 3 other car parks ended up in a supermarket one 1200 metres away.
I've looked on fb and it is a hot topic and people talking about discrimination of the elderly.
Also by googling can see it is an issue in places as diverse as Devon and Middlesbrough.

Are you sure you can't pay with coins too?
Our council just changed from 2 hours free parking, to £1 for two hours, which can be paid by coins or app.
The nearby Poundland has never been so busy lol.

No just Ringo in a local town, where I am it is either Ringo, coins and pin card or just Ringo and pin card.
It seems with ringo you casn get rid of the machines so more cost savings.

In Torbay when you enter a carpark it dates and time stamps your arrival and you pay on exit. You either pay by card or ringo. There is no other choice available.

This has more to do with central banking with no local branches left once they do away with cash payments everything is centrally controlled, this will affect local economies and small businesses will be badly hurt by it all. The banks are now run on the global corporate plan, no room for the small person. Remember Zany telling us how hard it is getting any backing. This is being done under your nose.

Personally I try to support local business as much as I can but underneath I know it is fighting a losing battle, the writing is on the wall for small local business high streets etc. If they escape the net, they only get taken over by the corporations eventually. They don't like people like me, where I like people having a choice beyond the corporate choice.

I used to go to Glastonbury every summer for 3-4 days of alternative speeches. The closures of the Banks were certainly an issue there and the workaround was being able to get cash out at the local CO-OP. I agree this is disappointing and makes me think of the old Girobank this from the wiki page Politics played a part in the development of the National Giro. It reflected a general feeling in the Labour Movement that the banks were not meeting the mass banking needs of the British population. In the early 1960s, the majority of adults in the United Kingdom did not have a bank account and the banks did not court business from the working classes, which they regarded as unprofitableen.wikipedia.org/wiki/GirobankSo there are always options if demand is strong enough.

There is no charge for registering with RingGo and no charge for the PIN confirmation text when you set up your account. When you park your vehicle with RingGo, you generally pay a 20p convenience charge on top of the normal parking tariff charges which apply.

The Ringo App works very well, I use it a lot but this policy is very wrong. Many people especially elderly don't have smart phones

The car park we use in town has four or five ticket machines and is shared by Sainsburys who reimburse shoppers the cost of the ticket. A couple of months ago all but one of the ticket machines suddenly changed to pay by mobile phone. The one ticket machine that still accepted cash was obvious by the queue of people next to it. No one liked the new arrangements and when we went into Sainsburys I told the woman on customer services that if the last cash ticket machine goes, then we will have to do our weekly shop elswhere, she said quite a few people have commented that they don't like the new ticket machines.

It's a no brainer, just decline to pay the fine, your defense you haven't got a mobile phone, if it went to court no judge in the land is going go in favour of the parking companies, or councils, they've basically just shot themselves in the foot, that what happens when you get greedy.
