Blackpool South MP Scott Benton suspended after appearing to offer to lobby for gambling investors.Tory MP Scott Benton has been suspended by the party after footage appeared to show him offering to lobby for gambling investors for payment - despite rules prohibiting them from doing so. The undercover investigation by The Times shows the Blackpool South MP explaining how he could use his position to try and limit the biggest reforms to gambling laws since 2005. He was secretly filmed by undercover reporters from the newspaper who posed as investors for a fake company with interest in the betting and gaming industry who were looking for an adviser. The video shows him boasting about his "easy access to ministers" claiming he could speak to them in between votes, or "literally sit outside" a minister’s office if the company needed an urgent answer to a question. He also said he could “call in favours” from colleagues if needed. www.itv.com/news/granada/2023-04-05/mp-caught-offering-to-break-rules-for-moneyGreedy SOB should be sacked, sadly MP's from both sides of the house have a history of this sort of corruption.

The guy must be really thick to fall for this with all the other sleaze stories of very recent times — and embrace the idea so enthusiastically!
Looks like Blackpool South will be returning to Labour...

There have been a few stings on Tory MP's of late, I'm not suggesting it's wrong to 'test' the honesty or integrity of Tory MP's but it would be nice if MP's from other parties were 'tested' too. On this particular sting, Tory MP Phil Davies was also contacted by the same people (from The Times) who set up Scott Benton. Phil Davies is obviously a bit sharper than Scott Benton because he immediately smelled a rat, but continued with the rouse. He took a witness and secretly recorded the meeting in order to 'out' the people who he thought were trying to coerce MP's to break the law. Of course it turned out to be a Times sting.

I think that gambling is a cancer in society. So many people are addicted and it affects their lives until the are skint or facing court action or worse for recovery of debts. The day the National lottery was authorised was a bad day in my opinion. People who can least afford it pay into a massive fund. Yes, some of it is used for "good" causes, but at what a price to many poor people in society who live in false hope.

Call me old fashioned, but I absolutely disagreed with the deregulation of licencing laws which changed our town centres forever. And gambling, whoever thought it would be a good idea to deregulate the gambling industry should be jailed, and who deregulated licencing and gambling law?
That's right, President Blair, Labour.

Scott Benton also told the people he was meeting with, who he thought were an Indian company, that everything should be denied if this (Conversation) ever became public knowledge. Scott Benton was a new MP, 2019 intake, and a perfect example of the low calibre of the modern MP.

This is the guy who claims ‘you’d be surprised how many things are £295’ (in relation to companies telling him a ticket to an event cost that because they know he has to declare anything £300 or more and it is the value declared to him by the donor that tbe Parliamentary Accounts people accept.
All in all it sounds to me like parliament acted to assist in hiding the acts of those following in the alleged footsteps of Neil ‘nice trousers there, lovely long pockets for the envelopes’ hamilton

If a sting does not work it is not reported. The Tories seem to fall for all of them.
