The Royal Mail board are threatening to put the 500 year old company into administration if the union do not accept their latest offer. Royal Mail talks over pay on brink of collapse What have we here, a company that makes £750m one year, pays out £450m in dividends and bonuses, then claims to be losing £1m a day the year after. Before you claim letters are dying, the Royal Mail Group recently changed its name to International Distributions Services and ended cross-subsidy between its three arms Royal Mail, Parcelforce and GLS. Between the group they delivered 8 billion letters, and 1.5 billion parcels in 2022. Royal Mail is by far the biggest parcel delivery company in the UK and has built / in the process of building 4 new "super" parcel sorting hubs. Royal Mail has a "Universal Service Obligation" to deliver post to every address in the UK, 6 days a week (Mon-Sat). It doesn't take a scientist to work out what is going on, they want to ditch the USO, so they have ended cross-subsidy so they can turn round to government and claim it is impossible to deliver. Cue some foreign billionaire rescuing the company but without the USO... and you can all enjoy picking your mail up from the (not so) local depot.

I'm not up to speed on current Royal Mail affairs. But one thing is for sure, Paula Vennells should be hauled, in handcuffs if necessary to court and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Which in the US would mean 60 years before parole could be considered. In this country it means she's awarded a CBE.
Apologies, I didn't mean to divert the thread. Well not so soon anyway, lol.

Yes she should. However, that is the Post Office, which is entirely separate from Royal Mail.

Dont you think?

Certainly makes all those that say it was sold off too cheap look a bit silly. It had and has huge deep rooted problems and the current management seems to have been determined to make more problems.

But But privatisation was a great idea, wasn't it? A response to ideas from the EU which the Coalition government approved of.

Dont you think? Only those who don't bother with real news. Do you still think BT is part of the same group too...

Why would we want to schlepp all the way with a parcel to a post office?
Take the effort out of sending parcels With Parcel Collect, we'll pick up your parcels from your home, safeplace or work.
We'll even bring your labels too.

Dont you think? I still do. For most of my life they have been one, and in my town the two are still in the same building, it's just that you have to walk around to a separate entrance now rather than get it over the main counter.

You don't have have leave your own house to have the likes of dpd etc pick up from home....The RM are on strike more than they work and are a total waste of space plus being more expensive option.
