It is also blatantly obvious to me that alcohol is probably the biggest cause of cancer, four people I know in their mid 50s all have cancer and were all big drinkers.

So a 16 year-old smoking ban is still shutting pubs? That’s crap!
Pub’s outside areas and doorways are heaving with smokers, to the extent we non-smokers’ clothes reek of cigarette smoke almost as much as when pub’s newly painted ceiling used to turn brown overnight…

I think a few are ok by becoming eating venues with a bar. Though agree most are struggling. Possibly not the place but unless you have the freehold orcare free of tie, which costs megabucks, you will be screwed by the pubco to whom you signed your self into slavery, who will drain you dry into bankruptcy and tgen start over with the next schmuck My friend was put through this grinder. I had to gift her some dosh to make the payment to apply for bankruptcy. In the court hearing 23 other would be pub owners were having their dreams crushed. I vowed never to spend money in such an establishment again and generally i have not. Wetherspoons for example, love them or hate them, state categorically they only use salaried managers in their business model and if i ever found different i’d sue the bastard CEO for fraudulentvadvertising. My distant relative owns the breconshire pub his great great ….. great uncle owned in 1832 which meant he got a vote because the pub PLUS the brewhouse, on the same land grant, were valued together in excess of ten pounds, thus meeting the property requirement to vote. He, like almost all other landlords, survives on his food menu. Making money from beer alone has not been possible since the 1980’s

It's not just a pub/restaurant, it's a hotel www.thedog.co.uk/rooms so (a) if he'll misrepresent what he is how can we trust that £100k? and (b) it doesn't seem so much now. Linkage to 'net zero' policies will also have been wildly exaggerated by Bridgen. The truth is they have a minor effect fullfact.org/economy/green-levies/ Steve that link says 404 not found is there more to the link ?? Works fine here on two separate browsers www.thedog.co.uk/rooms

I think that applies only to those who drink heavily. Many things cause cancer and sometimes it is just the luck of the draw. It is the social aspect of the pub that is being priced away as drinkers cannot afford to go often, and pubs cannot afford to have customers that do not spend much money.

We only have one local pub and even though he serves quite a small community I think he's doing OK because it's a gastro pub and the restaurant side of the business seems to be quite successful. Banning smoking in pubs hasn't helped either. It’s more than that though. Arguably pubs became nicer places to go to, but yes, the demonisation of the smoker has not helped. But for any who understand the trade, its all about paying for one piece of paper after the next after the next with nothing to show for it.

Hear hear Speaking as a non smoking two and a half pints a day twice a week biochemist, it is an acknowledged fact that enjoying three rashers of crispy smoked bacon every week exposes you to an intestinal cancer risk roughly fifty times more than a pint of beer a week because the preservatives and smoked flavourings react at high temperatures to create a nasty swine of a thing called nitrosamine. Well thats what the figures in my admittedly old Merck Index say for these chemicals But the reason i had a camera on a hosepipe rammed up my arse two months ago was the far nastier organic chemicals i worked with that killed a number of friends and relatives in the business i was in… You pays your money (or in my case collect it in a pay packet) spun the wheel and check for an extra head growing out of your arse…

There is time yet but considering my youthful and mid life actions I count myself lucky to have got this far.
