Multiple injuries after ship tips over at Edinburgh dockyard
A number of people have been injured in a major incident after a ship tipped over at an Edinburgh dockyard.
Police, ambulance crews, coastguard and the fire service were sent to research vessel Petrel at Imperial Dock, Leith.
The ship became dislodged from its holding on a dry dock at about 08:30.
The Scottish Ambulance Service sent five ambulances and three trauma teams. NHS Lothian said it was expecting a number of patients and urged people not to attend A&E in Edinburgh.
Pictures posted on social media show the 3,000-tonne vessel leaning at a 45-degree angle.
The BBC understands there are "multiple injuries" in the incident.
The 76m (250ft) ship, which is owned by the estate of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, was placed into long-term moorage in 2020 as a result of "operation challenges" during the Covid pandemic.
Before this, it had been used for deep water searches for shipwrecks and war graves at sea.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers and emergency service colleagues are responding to an incident at Imperial Dock in Leith, whereby a ship on dry dock has become dislodged from its holding.
"The public are asked to avoid the area to allow emergency service access."
The Scottish Ambulance Service said it had dispatched five ambulances, an air ambulance, three trauma teams and a special operations team.
HM coastguard sent teams from Fisherrow, South Queensferry and Kinghorn to the scene as part of the multi-agency response.
